Duncan Kennedy Memorial Fund

On Thursday March 3rd, 2016 at 8:15 a.m., this world lost one of the most amazing people from London, Ontario, Duncan Kennedy, at the young age of 21. He was a strong, intelligent, independent, hard working, dedicated person. He was genuinely caring. Duncan was the type of person that could walk in the room and you would see everyones faces light up. Everyone loved having him around. He had a true love for and is most known for skateboarding. His parents and siblings, all of his family, his girlfriend, all of his friends, anyone who knew him, loved him unconditionally, and we are all in absolute shock from this huge, sudden loss.

I am Ashley Bondi, the sister of Joey Bondi. Duncan was a really close friend of ours. We spent everyday together when we were young, along with a ton of others. He was like a brother to everyone. And even on his bad days, he was still smiling.

Duncans father, Ken Eastwood, posted a short story on Facebook with a photo of Duncan today, explaining some of what happened. It reads:

"Duncan had been dealing with what we thought was a minor chest infection for a few weeks.
After constant nagging from his parents and girlfriend Celine, he finally went to the walk-in clinic. The doctor there referred him to get a chest X-ray. As a stubborn 21-year-old guy (worse…a KENNEDY!) he thought he could deal with it himself and on his own time.
Tuesday, Duncan was getting set to begin a brand new chapter of his life in Hamilton, Ontario. A new place to live in a new city and a fresh new start! Great things on the horizon for this guy.
But he still hadn’t been back to the doctor.
By Wednesday night, in his new place, he began coughing blood and finally relented and went to the Joseph Brant Hospital.
The doctors diagnosed a severe chest infection and a partially collapsed lung.
He was given a chest tube. He even texted me pictures of the tube. No big deal, he said.
By 2am septic shock had set in and by 4:30am Nora and I were at his bedside.
By this time, he had lost consciousness and had been intubated.
His heart had stopped 3 times by the time we were able to be with him.
Each time, he and the doctors fought to get him back.
His heart would fail 4 more times, but we would not let him go without every bit of fight we KNEW he had in him.
I am so glad we could be with him and hold him and talk to him and tell him how proud were are of the man he was and of the man he was becoming.
At 8:15 a.m., his heart stopped for the last time…and so many other hearts were forever broken."

Between myself and a few of Duncans close friends and girlfriend. we have come up with this idea to start a go fund me campaign, to raise money for the Kennedy family.

Though no money and no words could ever take away the pain of such a tragic loss, we hope to help subsidize the amount of costs and pay every penny raised, back to the Kennedy family. Even if you cannot donate much, please remember that every dollar helps, and we all thank you greatly and endlessly for your help.

Rest in the sweetest peace, Duncan. You were taken way too soon and will never be forgotten.
