Writers Helping Writers Stopgap Insurance Fund

Donation protected

We're individual WGA members who want to help our fellow guild members who have lost their health insurance during our current contract dispute. This fund aims to provide a stopgap payment to writers who need to purchase COBRA or private insurance because they failed to qualify for PWGA insurance in the current quarter (ending 6/30/19).  We'll take anything you feel comfortable giving, but please consider a donation of $100 or more. COBRA is expensive.

TO APPLY: We ask that you follow these simple guidelines: You can apply for this money if you 1) are a full voting member of the WGA in good standing who currently has PWGA coverage that is set to expire on 9/30/19 and can show some proof of this coverage;  2) have failed to qualify in the second quarter of 2019 (ending 6/30/19).

If you feel you qualify, please contact us at [email redacted] and we'll take it from there.
If you know someone who could use this money, please forward this link.
Payments will be distributed equally among qualified writers.
This campaign will end on July 31, 2019.

The only tool we have to guarantee fairness is transparency. So we will be communicating with donors often. We'll keep recipients' names confidential if they prefer, but we would like to be able to tell donors how many payments have been made, and some details about the circumstances.

Andy Bobrow and I organized and set up this campaign as individuals on behalf of WGA writers. We are not an LLC or other corporation, and the dispersal of funds to recipients will be managed by us as individuals. At the conclusion of this campaign, all monies raised will therefore have to be dispersed into my personal bank account, and then sent on to recipients. There's no other way to do this through GoFundMe, as dispersal to multiple recipients is not allowed.

Any questions, please feel free to write to the email address above.
Thank you for your generosity!
