Wreaths Across America Post 502

Donation protected
In 2008, December 13 was unanimously voted by the US Congress as “Wreaths across America Day”. That year over 300 locations held wreath laying ceremonies in every state, Puerto Rico and 24 overseas cemeteries. Over 100,000 wreaths were placed on veterans’ graves. Over 60,000 volunteers participated.

The event has grown! In 2014, Wreaths across America laid over 700,000 memorial wreaths at 1,000 locations in the United States and beyond. We were able to include ceremonies at the Pearl Harbor Memorial, as well as Bunker Hill, Valley Forge and the sites of the September 11 tragedies. We accomplished this with help from over 2,000 corporate contributions, and donations of trucking, shipping, and thousands of helping hands. We covered Arlington National Cemetery with the placement of 226,525 wreaths.

This national wreath laying is still held annually, on the second or third Saturday of December; this year on December 16. On the East Coast, our annual pilgrimage from Harrington, Maine to Arlington National Cemetery has become known as the world’s largest veterans’ parade, stopping at schools, monuments, veterans’ homes and communities all along the way to remind people how important it is to Remember, Honor and Teach, our motto.

At 9 AM on Saturday December 16, 2017 for a brief patriotic ceremony followed by the emotional laying of the wreaths on the headstones of interred veterans, each marked with a small American flag. Family members, longtime friends and other patriotic citizens solemnly walk the graves silently saluting and tearfully placing wreaths on the stones. They spend a moment or two reading the names and dates of life - and death - emblazoned on the bronze plates before moving on to the next veteran. It is a moving moment in our always beautiful  morning.

We need your donations! As our country continues to make new veterans – and lose them - our need cries out for your help! Wreaths are individually sponsored at $15 per wreath by folks, any amount will help.

Please favorably decide to donate. Contact us for more information. We are sponsored by Moorpark’s American Legion Post 502.

Better to say I did
then to say I didn’t, but should have

To be killed in war is not the worst that can happen
To be lost is not the worst that can happen …
To be forgotten is the worst
