Our mission for Bliss Wellness Center is to create a healing center in the tropical rainforest of Isla Bastimentos, Bocas Del Toro,
Panama on our family land. The land was a legacy left to my husband by his late grandfather to preserve. The purpose of the wellness center is to:
1) Preserve the last remaining plant knowledge of the Afro-Carribbean culture of Bastimentos Island. Bastimentos is abundant with plants that are scientifically proven cures to asthma, cancer, high blood pressue, diabetes, and other life threatening diseases. Only a few elders now in their later stages of life still hold the knowledge passed on to them from thousands of years of healing with these plants.
2) Create a community program to teach Bastimentos parents and children the medicinal plants of their ancestors and re-introduce their use in the community. Many people in the community have very little income and can not afford the hospital yet right in their own backyard lives cures to every day ailments and chronic health issues. We will create a medicine plant trail using signs and planting along the main path in the village for locals and tourists to identify the plants.
3) Empower people to heal themselves and understand the nature of disease and illness while revitalizing cultural roots to take pride in their heritage.
4) Plant an extensive garden on our land to preserve some powerful medicine plants that are quickly becoming extinct due to developement
5) Provide healing through rain forest medicinal plants, yoga, hands on healing, meditation,
nature therapy, gardening, organic high vibrational food and
delicious meals to people living in First World nations who do not have access to herbs and holistic healing opportunities and whose busy stress filled lifestyles do not allow the time for center and balance. We will teach people how to heal themselves through all of the methods listed above and to create a lasting change in their body and mind, giving them tools to return home with and continue on a path of healthy living . The center is also available to individuals and
families to experience the transformational and healing power of the
rain forest as an alternative to a typical resort vacation. Tours and
rainforest adventures will be provided at the center as well as daily
yoga, energy therapy, meditation, massage, hikes, and other
activities.
The wellness center will include the local community and provide
youth and elders opportunities to participate in wellness programs
and classes as well as provide jobs and meaningful income for the
rain forest community of Bastimentos. A living library of rain forest
medicinal plants will be created on the property and documentation
of the healing power of rainforest plants will begin to provide a
resource for the community and others seeking this knowledge and
healing.
Those with the plant knowledge will provide classes to tourists and guests, as well as locals from surrounding islands.
