THE WORLD'S LONGEST BASS SOLO

We are about to host the 16th annual NOW now festival. A festival dedicated to experimental, improvised, outsider, radical and  absolutely incredible music.

Like most arts events on the planet, these things require funding, because although we have a great audience, we don't have a huge one. In order to put on the festival, we need to raise funds to cover some of the more basic costs - like venue hire, piano hire, promotion, and of course, artist fees.

I've decided to perform the world's longest bass solo to raise the money we need to cover our costs.

There are more than 50 artists performing at the festival, over four nights in three spaces. In a Sydney suffering from the shut-down of venues and the cultural annihilation that comes from rent-hikes, lock-outs, and all-pervasive pop-monoculture, events like the NOW now are vital.

How do we breed creativity if we can't present it?

To raise the money, i'm going to do what I was born to do, play  the bass. But instead of playing a concert, I'm going to play for 24 hours, from sunrise to sunrise on January 14 - and livestream it for the world to watch. This may be painful. Actually it will be painful.

If we can raise the full $20,000 the NOW now festival 2017 and the monthly series that follows will be able to maintain the community focus that our music needs to grow.

The livestream will be hosted on YouTube at
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCmlF0HrCxrrxnhNJ-bceslQ/live from dawn on January 14, 2017

Tune in from 4:51 am
(Australian Eastern Standard Time)

Please help. Please make a donation today and push creative music forward into the new year.

DEAR EVERYONE! It's the last day of the festival. It has been absolutely beautiful. A remarkable group of listeners, beautiful music and totally ecstatic music (of many varieties). As we reach this final night - a milestone if you will, we are going to close our fundraising appeal.

I just want to thank you all for the incredible experience and support. And on behalf of the NOW now and the community it serves, LOVE!!!

If you would like to make one more 'holy shit you did it' contribution, then now is the time. The every present NOW!

Respect to you.

Dear amazing people,
so, we did it.

It was a beautiful, daunting experience. An inspiring moment in my life.

I want to thank all of you for your generosity and support. You guys have given Sydney a gift.

We haven't reached our $20,000 target, but you know - the first goal was $5,000! and we smashed that.

Here is a little sample, at hour 22! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YM1x5J0J_YA

I did this to cover the costs of the NOW now 2017. Right now, we can cover the festival, but not the series. If you watch this and feel moved to contribute, then please do!

For everyone who shared this and supported us, this incredible moment is for you.

OK! So, we are doing this. I'm about to get on a flight to Hobart. I'll be offline until the end of this adventure.

The live-stream will be hosted at www.thenownow.net or here: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCmlF0HrCxrrxnhNJ-bceslQ/live

We are just over half-way to our target, so we need to have an amazing, ridiculous, completely international support effort!

If you can give again, please do, but most importantly, SHARE THE SHIT OUT OF THIS!!!!!!

WITH LOVE!!
THANK YOU FOR MAKING THIS HAPPEN

c, when you say "hosted" by MONA does that mean you'll actually be playing the solo in hobart? is that a good idea, to fundraise for a sydney festival by playing somewhere where no one from sydney can come along to see the performance and support?

Very good Clayton, but this is very sad, that is no public money for such great event like NowNow Festival. Who is running the country?
