Bring the World to Portland

Tax deductible
What are we seeking donations for?
This campaign is set up to help the World Affairs Council of Kentucky & So. Indiana  fund the renovation, furnishings and move-in readiness of its new future home in the Portland neighborhood of Louisville, Kentucky.

Why is it important?
This move reflects a significant milestone in our 30 year history. For many years, the World Affairs Council has been located in the heart of downtown Louisville and has brought thousands of international leaders to the area. Due to a change in ownership of our current building, and a significant hike in rent, we are forced to look for new office space.

In itself, this is not a big deal - organizations move offices all the time. What makes our move so significant is that we have decided as an organization that rather than move into another space in downtown Louisville, we want to be part of a bigger movement and vision for the future of a community in Louisville. We decided to move to a historical builidng that is architecturally beautiful, long abandoned, but in the process of being revived - a "diamond in the rough" in the historic Portland neighborhood. (More about this diverse, economically depressed neighborhood that's on the move. )

With this move, we hope to do our part to help revive and bring new appreciation for the Portland community, and add our brand of international flavor to the area.

How will the space be used?
The building we will be moving into was built in 1852, and was last home to the Portland Christian School. In addition to an administrative space, we will have a separate classroom that will be used for in-house programs that include educational workshops and events for students, educators, WAC members, supporters, and the general public.

The new location and event space will allow the WAC to host regular and diverse programs featuring international leaders from our exchange programs, students from around the world, workshops and presentations for students involved in our education programs, and special events that will bring people from around the city to the neighborhood to participate.  In this way, we will help to bring the world to Portland and raise awareness about the Portland neighborhood throughout the city and beyond.

DONATE TODAY!
Help us raise the funds to make our new office space a welcoming place for our international guests and our community members. The funds will go toward the renovation, furnishings, and equipment for our spaces.

We are slated to move at the end of October 2016! Please donate what you can and share this campaign with your friends, family, co-workers and others to help us raise the funds quickly! For donations of $250 or more, please contact us to get a receipt for your contribution.

Every donation you make will be greatly appreciated.
