World Baseball Project - Phase II
A.K.A. Operation: Get Ro to Kenya!!

Letter from the Director

Hi everyone!

First, on behalf of all connected to, involved in, and impacted by World Baseball Project, I just want to thank those of you who helped us fund Phase I of the World Baseball Project. It is because of you that the dream is still alive and well. A message will be going out shortly to all contributers to date to detail how your money has been spent, as well as to inform you of your status as a "founding" funder.

One important cost your contributions helped cover was that of registration, design, and construction of the official World Baseball Project website. If you haven't had a look yet, please visit

While there's still a little bit left in the kitty, we need your help in reaching our next goal:

Get our Ethiopian friend  and Bekoji Site Manager, Rohobot, to Kenya for the Baseball 4 Africa Championship tournament in July!

About Rohobot

Rohobot, pictured in the profile as well in the yellow jersey above, is one of the founding members of the Bekoji Baseball Club, in Bekoji, Ethiopia, from when it met for the very first time in December of 2013. Since the departure of his baseball mentors in 2014, Ro has kept the "baseball dream" of Bekoji youth alive, conducting practices, sandlot style games, and teaching young newbies how to wear a glove and catch a ball.

Rohobot gives his time to Bekoji Baseball on a competely voluntary basis, in hopes that his efforts will one day bring a formidable baseball program to his town. With World Baseball Project returning to Kenya for this year's Baseball 4 Africa tournament, we see this as a great opportunity to introduce Rohobot to contacts from the Kenyan baseball network, in hopes that they may be able to support their neighbor to the north.

Rohobot is set to graduate from college this year, which would allow him to take on a more official role within World Baseball Project, should we be able to fund and develop such a role in the near future. The first step, however, is to get him to Kenya, paving the way for more potential baseball scholarship and development abroad, with potential opportunities in both China and Germany that we will be pursuing further.

As Rohobot's family would not be able to financially support such a journey - though they have given their graces to "approve" his travel - we are asking our friends around the world to pitch in and help get his trip covered.

Total costs for his flights, lodging (likely homestay) and meals is less than $500.

We should be able to make that happen, right? Let's do this!

Will you help get Ro to Kenya?

We will be approaching Ethiopian AIrlines, first, to request sponsorship for Rohobot's flight. If they are not able, then we will ask Kenyan Airlines.

In the event we are able to have his flights sponsored, there's always more we can do, so...

Additional Phase II Goals

Once we have Rohobot's costs coverd, the next step will be to provide some discretionary financial support to some efforts in Kenya.  Running a successful tournament isn't cheap, and there's always more we could do if we had the funds. But a little bit of extra cash in the slush fund goes a long way in improving the Baseball 4 Africa Championship tournament experience for participants.

We will be on-hand throughout the tournament to directly oversee use of all funds.

Finally, once all costs are covered, we will see what we can do about researching and advocating for a dedicated playing space for the Alice Baseball Program in Elburgon, a slum town in northeastern Kenya where baseball provides hope and healthy alternatives for the community's youth.

World Baseball Project is a fully crowd-funded social good endeavor that aims to catalyze the increasing popularity and demand for baseball to improve Global Citizenship approaches and impact overall positive social change.
