Woody Guthrie's 26 Northwest Songs

$1,650 of $25,000 goal

Raised by 44 people in 32 months

Some of Woody Guthrie's most famous and enduring songs - "Roll On, Columbia" and "Pastures of Plenty - were composed during one prolific month in May of 1941. Woody was hired to write songs to promote the efforts of the Bonneville Power Administration in Portland, Oregon. He turned in 26 songs, and still some of them have only been published in the Roll On Columbia Songbook--they have never been recorded. Now, multiple generations of Northwest-based roots music artists are collaborating on an album that will represent the first time all 26 songs have been recorded together as an album.
Led by northwest native Joe Seamons, folk musician (and former BPA employee) Bill Murlin, and renouned musician / producer Jon Neufeld, this project is bringing together over a dozen different Northwest-based bands to professionally record and release the new album.

With recording sessions booked in both Portland and Seattle, and a release date set for May 28th, 2016 - now is your time to help contribute to this landmark effort to explore the power and wonder of Woody Guthrie's incredible compositions.

Hello friends!
I wanted to let you know that the project to record all of Woody's NW songs is proceeding apace, but as you can tell from a glance at the fundraising goal I set for the GoFundMe campaign all those months ago, we did not even manage to raise 10% of our goal. With your donations, anonymous donations, donated time, and personal investment from myself and Bill Murlin, we have managed to fund the recording of all the songs. Meanwhile, the project has begun to garner interest from a couple of record labels. These are positive and exciting developments, and I want to heartily thank every one of you for your early investment in our project.

But, to complete the project this year, I've been compelled to launch another crowdfunding campaign, this time through Kickstarter. That project will launch next week, and will not make mention of your contributions simply to avoid scaring away investors who might think that the Kickstarter project has no hope of reaching its goal.

Here is why I think that the Kickstarter campaign will succeed where our GoFundMe work fell short--beyond the fact that it is the larger and more established network:

1. Thanks to our music producer, John Neufeld, we have a personal contact in Kickstarter's promotions department who has pledged to push the project from their end.

2. Woody's daughter Nora, who oversees the Guthrie legacy, has told us she will both contribute and share the campaign throughout their network.

3. It looks likely that one of the record labels that are sniffing around the project will hop aboard officially within the next two weeks, meaning that we'll get a boost through their networks as well.

4. David Grisman, the famous mandolinist, recently recorded two tracks for the project, and thus his name recognition will carry it further.

5. People like each of you have shown unflagging support and patience as we've tried to complete this sizable task.

So, I want to thank you all from the bottom of my heart, humbly request that you share the Kickstarter campaign video when it launches next week, and promise that you will be first to receive the rewards you earned by pledging money to our cause.

Thank you so much for your support, feel free to contact me with any questions you may have.
