Woodbury Union Church Fire Recovery

This GoFundMe page is dedicated to supporting Woodbury Union Church in the aftermath of a recent fire. The purpose of this site is to raise money for the church’s recovery during the months ahead. Carol Christensen, Woodbury’s Treasurer, will be handling the withdrawal of the funds as the church has been deemed a total loss.
On the eve of Thanksgiving, the church caught fire, destroying most the building and the contents within. Parishioners and community members stood outside in the cold in disbelief and witnessed the devastation. Police and Firefighters from around the state worked through the night into Thanksgiving Day to fight the fire. Despite the loss, the congregation is deeply humbled by the support of the first responders, the parishioners, the Presbyterian Church (USA), other local churches, and the community at large.

About the Church
Woodbury Union Church was founded in 1907 and is still a cornerstone of Conimicut Village in Warwick, Rhode Island. The building itself was home to many public services, including the monthly food pantry, and has provided spaces for programs such as AA, BSA, GSA as well as practice space for the band Bayside Beat. The church is an integral part of the community, hosting events such as Music in the Village, Conimicut Pumpkin Spooktacular, Thompson Variety Show, and Tree Lighting Ceremony in partnership with the Conimicut Village Association, and numerous clothing and food drives.
As the church faces its biggest trial, we remember that Woodbury is more than the building that houses it, and its foundation is built on something stronger than mortar and stone. The church and its congregation continue to worship, love, and outreach in order to serve the surrounding community. We may be without a building but we are not without our mission to serve God and to help those who are less fortunate.
