My name is Nicole Heckman and I am a fellow Memphian and part of the planning team for the Women's March on Washington - Memphis group.
On January 21, 2017 Memphians will unite with our fellow Americans in Washington, DC for the Women’s March on Washington. We will stand together in solidarity with our partners and children for the protection of our rights, our safety, our health, and our families – recognizing that our vibrant and diverse communities are the strength of our country.
More than 200 of us will be traveling the 15 hours to Washington by bus, building camaraderie along the way and making the trip as affordable as possible. It will still, however, be financially out of reach for many to make the trip without your help.
Our FOUR buses will cost $37,000 making it about $170 per person, plus the cost of lodging for Saturday night and meals. The total cost per person will approach $300. We don't want money to be the barrier that keeps our neighbors from participating in this important and historic event!
If you believe the rhetoric of the past election cycle has insulted, demonized, and threatened many of us–women, immigrants of all statuses, those with diverse religious faiths particularly Muslim, people who identify as LGBTQIA, Native and Indigenous people, Black and Brown people, people with disabilities, the economically impoverished and survivors of sexual assault - support this march and send a powerful message that this behavior is not acceptable!
If you can't make the trip yourself, give to this fund and insure that fellow Memphians carry your message to DC loudly.
All contributions, large and small, make a difference.
The Memphis planning team will use all funds raised to reduce costs associated with traveling by bus to Washington. Campaign funds will be distributed to Heather Walter, the Memphis planning committee member responsible for issuing payment to the bus company. Funds will cover legally required hotel rooms for the bus drivers, directly related incidentals and the bus rental itself. For items such as the bus driver hotel rooms, the planning team is currently covering costs and will be reimbursed. The planning team is 100% volunteers and not compensated.
