Women’s Aussie Belles Story

Help the Aussie Belles reach the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games!

Our Aussie Belles Women’s team are currently ranked inside the Top 10 and most recently played in the 2018 IBSA Goalball World Championships in Sweden where they finished 7th and narrowly went down in their quarterfinal to Bronze Medalists, Brazil. This is the highest that the Aussie Belles have placed at a Paralympic Games or IBSA Goalball World Championships. The team won Bronze in the Regional Championships behind China and Japan, and also finished 4th in the most recent IBSA World Games.

This team has now had their high performance funding completely cut by Sport Australia and are left in a dangerous position of being able to have the funds necessary to compete for Australia in their two opportunities to qualify for the 2020 Tokyo Paralympic Games. These opportunities will be held through the 2019 IBSA World Games in Ft Wayne, Indiana from 28th June - 10th July, and their Regional Qualifier to be held in Chiba, Japan from 2nd - 12th December. The expenses for both tournaments will cost Goalball Australia approximately $80,000 to attend with players and staff, as well as training camps costs for preparation leading up to both tournaments. Your tax deductible donation will ensure that our Belles continue to capitalise on their already significant improvements and give them the best chance to medal in the 2020 Tokyo Paralympic Games.

The Aussie Belles have been boosted by the addition of two members from the Aussie Glow Under 19 Youth Girl's team who won the 2017 World Championships in Budapest, Hungary. Brodie Smith, Captain of that team was awarded the Leading Goal Scorer in Budapest, followed by her first Senior World Championships where she was the 2nd Leading Goalscorer for Australia, including vital goals in general play to overcome long time dominant Women’s team Israel at the 2018 IBSA World Championships in Malmo, Sweden. Brodie is joined by South Australian Nikita Grosser who has contributed a lot to the team in her defence which saw her play the whole Gold Medal Game in that historic win from 2017 over Russia. Russia had won the previous three Youth Girls World Championships they competed in until being defeated by Australia 9-6 in Budapest.

Our Belles are now primed to take the next step and compete for a medal in 2020 with your support, Goalball Australia can give this team their dream and create history in Tokyo 2020 at the Paralympic Games.

We need your support to get there. Please make a tax deductible donation today to support the girls!
