Since 1934, three generations of the Burke family operated the South End Tavern welcoming mill workers, city residents and visitors alike to eat, drink and socialize in a true neighborhood tavern. While The South End Tavern has been empty for several years, it lives on in thousands of family stories and fond remembrances. Good food and drink was enjoyed, romances were begun, friends were made, deals were struck and life was celebrated at The South End Tavern.
The Rensselaer County Historical Society (RCHS) has a one time and immediate opportunity to purchase the “South End Tavern” and “Ladies’ Entrance” signs that hung over that sidewalk you stood on and preserve these iconic pieces of Troy’s history.
