Early Christmas morning Nathaiel's life was changed forever. Nathaniel was on his way home after spending Christmas Eve with his dad, at some point Nathaiel's father lost control of his truck. The truck hit multiple trees and brush before it came to a stop. Nathaniel took most of the impact from the trees and the final tree that stopped the truck. Both Nathaniel and his Dad had to be extracted by the Jaws of Life from the truck, Nathaniel was taken to children's hospital by flight for life with critical injuries. Nathaniel has undergone multiple surgeries since Christmas morning. One surgery was to attempt repair and reattach his right arm. It breaks my heart to say at 11 years old this boy has lost his right arm. Not only was he a great baseball player but also a great football player. Nathaniel will have to relearn how to do even the simplest of task like eating breakfast with one arm, this is hard for anyone let alone an 11 yr old boy whose dreams of playing sports has come to split second stop. Nathaniel will have to undergo intense therapy and will need a lot of help. We are raising money to not only help with medical bills but to also at some point get him a functional prosthetic arm. Please help this child with his long road to recovery.

I would like Everyone to be aware that Tanya Thurston Nathaniel's mother is the beneficiary for the Helping Nathaniel funds.  All funds are being placed in a private account for all of Nathaniel's medical needs. I would also like to add Tanya is my sister that makes Nathaniel my nephew.

I would first off like to apologize for such a long delay between updates. Things around here have been extremely busy as you can all imagine. Not many changes medically wise we are still waiting on seeing the prosthesis doctor. Hopefully he is a good candidate for a mechanical arm. We won't know that yet until after he sees the Dr. but so far it's looking positive. Nathaniel has been doing pretty well last week he was rocking the basketball between doing tricks to making just about every shot he took, he didn't miss many it was amazing to see. He has also begun throwing baseballs left-handed and doing absolutely amazing. He is such an amazing young man who has gone though so. We are all so unbelievably happy and overwhelmed with joy to see him able to do those things again.
So physically speaking he's doing pretty well considering what he has gone through and given his circumstances. His mental and emotional state obviously has ups and downs and obviously he has his moments. We can only imagine how he must feel inside. None of us will ever know how he really feels but all we can do is continue to give him support and encouragement. He is starting to show a little bit of self consciousness or he is just not feeling comfortable with the way he looks and that is totally understandable. He rarely leaves the house without a long sleeve shirt or a sweatshirt to cover his amputation. We pray that this passes for him, and we know that is going to take time. Our family is so thankful for all the love and support and the out pour of prayer we have received. We want to thank the Oconomowoc Five O's for the amazing support they have given to Nathaniel. It was so amazing to see him in his uniform again. The team has been amazing and we want to say thanks for that. Also the fact you all choose to have NF#15 patches on the uniforms was unbelievably supportive so thank you all so much. Our family wants to thank everyone of you for all the love and support and the outpouring of prayers we have received. Our family want everyone to know we truly are thankful for all the support. Please continue the prayers and please pray he finds comfort.

As you all know from my last update Nathaniel is making progress and making strides everyday. We are all so very proud of him and all he has accomplished thus far.
Nathaniel has a lot of work emotionally and physically ahead of him yet to come and we ask for love and support and lots of prayers for him. I ask that you all remember that this is an 11 yr old boy who was a very athletic child who played baseball and football and often basketball. He loved the outdoors and hunting and being as active as most 11 yr old boys if not more active. Not only did he have to face the fact he lost his right arm in a terrible car accident and had to realize life would never be the exact same, but now he has to deal with the death of his father who he loved and was very close to. This child has gone through more in in 3 months then most do in a life time. How does anyone deal with the lost of an arm to the lost of a father in such a fast time. I don't think anyone will ever really know how he feels or what he could be thinking. I can only imagine the pain he must feel inside and the questions and grief he must feel every morning he wakes up. Everyday is a new day but that day also brings reality of what his life will be like withut his father or his arm. As his aunt who loves him dearly and very proud of him everyday I ask that for just a moment put yourself in his place just for a moment. I promise just for that split moment you will feel all kinds of emotions you didn't think you had. So please hare his story and pray for him. He needs all the prayers he can get not only for emotional strength but also physical strength, and healing all around.
We want to thank everyone who has done so much for him already. We thank you all for the love and support you have given.

I would like to give a quick update on Nathaniel. Last week he was able to start attending school for a few hours where he gets private teaching away from other kids at this time. He is getting caught up in school and doing pretty well physically. He still has good days and bad but he has been working very hard to get in to a new normal. The Dr.'s have been able to change and decrease meds and keeping his pain under control. The amputation has healed very well and as soon as we get the ok it will be off to forming the area for a prosthetic. So that's good news as we all know and have been praying for. But on March 11th 2018 Nathaniel' s father passed away. Emotionally Nathaniel as been through so much already but now we have to add the death of his father who he loved so very much. They has a special bond and his father will be missed we ask for prayer to help everyone emotionally and we defiantly need support for this horrible turn of events that have taken place. Please continue helping Nathaniel heal and give love and support. And pray for peace and comfort.

Update on Nathaniel.

He is doing good. Better then me or most people that would at his age. He has been to the eye Dr and belive it or not he has 20/20 vision and no damage to the right eye itself.

He has also been referred to another Dr that will take us through the next steps of shaping his arm so that when he is ready we will then be referred to a prostetic Dr.

Today was huge progress for Nathaniel. Today was his first day back to school. He will be going to school two days a week private tutoring for two hours each time. Once he is comfortable and to a point where he thinks he can get back into full days and a class room then he will. Nathaniel has also made progress at Physical therapy. Today he did mirror therapy which actually for the first time helped. It was actually pretty emotional for us both. He also accomplished tying both his shoes in one try. Again tears rolled down my cheeks. To watch him complete that task was such an amazing feeling.

Nathaniel is determined and doesn't want or ask for help without first trying it himself. Everyday there is progress.

Everyone's thoughts and prayers are definatly paying off as Nathaniel continues his New journey.

NATHANIEL STRONG #15
