Help My Former Guide Dog pup!

My yellow Lab Winnie has been with me since she was 9 weeks old. I raised her to be a guide dog for Guide Dogs for the Blind in San Rafael, CA but after 15 months being loving socialized by me and 4 months being trained in San Rafael, she was dropped for being "too submissive" (too sweet, I say) and came to be my pet. Winnie has been one of my best friends for 10 years, and now she has been diagnosed with renal (kidney) cancer. So far, in about 10 days, I have spent $1700 on vets and antibiotics (see below). I'm hoping someone with goodness in their heart can help with some of these costs. I'm certainly willing to pay to make her comfortable, but it will create a money-pinch for me. I am working part-time now.

Over the past several weeks, she has been tiring easily and breathing hard. The first vet found she had a urinary infection. The second vet found she had an enlarged kidney and infection, and the radiologist's ultrasound diagnosed the carcinoma. (The specialist feels we could remove her damaged kidney and she may regain quality of life. Surgery is about $4000 but we're not at that step yet). It has been a rough week for us, since I also have an abcess on my thumb!




A few months ago, Winnie loved to play on the beach, sleep with my cat, hike with my other dog, and make me laugh every day. She is funny, sweet and mischievious, and I love her a lot. I would be grateful for any help, and will pay it forward when I can. Help us as Winnie heals and fights cancer!
