It is so exciting that our own Rudy Winkler is an Olympian! The little village of Averill Park and indeed the entire Capital Region is justifiably proud of this hard working, dedicated, genuinely kind and big hearted young man.
Rudy, a rising senior at Cornell University, grew up in rural Rensselaer County, went to Poestenkill Elementary, Algonquin Middle School and Averill Park High School. He competed alongside athletes from the entire area – Albany, Troy, Schenectady and all the little towns in between. Maybe you or your child athlete remember him? He was the gentle giant with a big smile and words of encouragement for all his fellow athletes.
Rudy has five older siblings and an awesome mom and dad who would love to be in Rio to cheer him on. If we all give just a bit to help them get to Brazil next month, it can be a trip to remember for this local family!
