Support Aviation Mission in the DRC

$4,560 of $30,000 goal

Raised by 27 people in 13 months

Wings of Caring (WOC) is an improbable and heroic medical, aviation-based ministry in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), a nation 3X the size of Texas with less than 2,000 miles of road.  WOC pilots risk their lives flying deep into the interior of the DRC to airlift the sick or deliver needed resources to isolated villages  (see photos & video provided by Paul Jeffrey/kairosphotos.com).

WOC planes need a large amount of fuel.  Because fuel is prohibitively expensive in the DRC, WOC pilots buy it in the neighboring country of Zambia.  Each fuel-buying flight is 8 hours round-trip, burning a barrel of fuel each way. Planes can only carry 5 barrels with no way to extend the flight beyond what fuel they have on board.  Fuel is a major preoccupation and worry for WOC pilots.

Pilot Jacques Umembudi Akasa  is one of the "bush pilots" who serves this ministry.  Recently, Jacques wistfully mentioned that if WOC could purchase a year's supply of fuel up front, the benefits would be tremendous!  This would take a huge burden off of WOC pilots and save money.

Here is the bottom line:  The current annual cost of fuel for WOC is $70,000.   This project seeks to raise $70,000 by December 31, 2018.  WOC will then be able to purchase fuel in bulk and ship it, freeing pilots and planes to fly missions and save lives.  WOC is supported by the United Methodist Church's General Board of Global Ministries (GBGM)/Advance No. 08595A ( www.umcmission.org), but funding is intermittent as churches donate.  This gift would also allow WOC to begin budgeting for 2019 fuel a year in advance, so that the ministry could plan missions and still have fuel for unexpected emergencies.

Please join this effort by making a donation and sharing the gofundme.com link through your social media accounts. Ask your friends and contacts to do the same. Administrative costs of the gofundme.com website are 7.9% + 30 cents  (USD) per donation.

WOC is a ministry that saves lives, inspires hope, and lifts spirits by bringing medical assistance, resources and the Good News of Jesus Christ to those living in inaccessible areas of the DRC.  The funds you donate will be directed to a  GoFundMe account created by the Clarendon United Methodist Church (CUMC) of Arlington, Virginia, USA.  CUMC's Treasurer is the account manager,  and will send all funds collected to the GBGM Advance No. 08595A/fuel fund.

Thank you for your interest, generosity & action.  While the people in the DRC will never know who put the fuel in the airplanes that frequent their villages, they will know the joy of being loved and cared for in an amazing way by a Great God and His people.

Lastly, Jacques invites you to visit the DCR and see WOC in action yourself!

Great News! The WOC plane has been shipped to South Africa for repairs!! Jacques expects it to be flight ready again soon. Also, counting direct donations to the church, we have raised $20,000 so far towards this project! Jacques says that a third of a year's worth of fuel ($24,000), plus money to ship it by train ($6,000)would really make a difference. Our revised goal is $30,000 by the end of the year. Thank you so much for your support. Please consider making additional contributions to this amazing ministry. And, pass the message on to your contacts. We can do this!

To our generous donors,

We are approaching $14,000 in funds raised for Wings of Caring. Many donors give directly to Clarendon United Methodist Church to avoid Go Fund Me fees.

WOC has suffered a set back. One of its planes made an emergency landing in a field, and landed up-side down, but intact. We praise God as the pilot only suffered minor injury to his knee and head, and believes that the aircraft is salvageable. We will provide more details as we learn them. We encourage you to continue giving as you are able, and spread the word about this effort.

Given the political unrest in the DRC, our Congolese brothers and sisters need the support WOC provides all the more. Thank you for your interest and action.
