William Melnik -Memorial

I'm a first generation Ukrainian American. My father William Melnik (Vasyl Melnyk) immigrated to the United States in 1928 at the age of 18.  He was proud of his heritage and his wife and five children. He spent much of his life working in tool and die factory.

Although I didn't grow up in a Ukrainian community, my cultural heritage has always been an important part of who I am. I visited Ukraine for the first time in 1974, and have been back twice since then. I've been a member of Ukrainian National Women's League of America (UNWLA) since 2000, and have been serving on the board of directors for the Ukrainian American Archives and Museum of Detroit (UAAM) since 2014.

Today I'm raising money for the UAAM. Their mission is to catalogue & preserve Ukrainian history, art and culture, as well as exhibit, educate and facilitate genealogical access to their Archives.

The money donated will be used to complete the construction required at the new building just purchased at 9626 Joseph Campau, Hamtramck, Michigan.

I've set a personal goal of raising $5,000. This amount will ensure our father a plaque on the wall of founding donors.  Our father has been gone for over 27 years, yet not a day goes by that I am not grateful for his courage and sacrifice to give his family a better life.

Please consider even a small donation to help us honor his memory.
