On May 6, 2017 at 7:35pm Clark Hoppel suddenly went into cardiac arrest while at home with his beloved wife Teri. Paramedics were called and Clark was resuscitated roughly 14 times upon their arrival before being transported to St. Luke’s Hospital.
Doctors have concluded that Clark suffers from Hereditary Angioedema (HAE) which is a very rare and potentially life-threatening genetic condition. HAE occurs in about 1 in 10,000 to 1 in 50,000 people. HAE symptoms include episodes of edema (swelling) in various body parts including the hands, feet, face and airway. In addition, patients often have bouts of excruciating abdominal pain, nausea and vomiting that is caused by swelling in the intestinal wall.
On May 19, 2017 Clark's breathing ventilator and feeding tube was removed and replaced with a trachea and peg. Clark's chance at recovery remains positive but with that being said, he will need to undergo long term rehabilitation. While Clark currently remains in a coma state with his family by his side, the doctors plan to have him transferred sometime next week to Nexus, which is an intermediary rehabilitation hospital located in Houston, Texas.
For some of you that may not personally know Clark Hoppel, please know that he is an aspiring industry leader who has always cared for his family and community so now is the time to show our strength and support to him and his family that have always been there to help others in the time of need. On behalf of the Hoppel family, your donations and prayers are much needed and are greatly appreciated.
