Peter Wilkinson believed in the power of parks, greenspaces and woodlands. He wanted the world to embrace them as a force for good. A 32-year career in public service saw him work as a parks ranger, public rights of way officer, community forest director, parks service manager and greenspace consultant. In his spare time, he was a keen volunteer for organisations pursuing these causes, from local 'friends of' groups to national organisations. His colleagues describe him as kind, visionary and inspirational.

He died of lymphoma on Saturday 9 June 2018, aged 57. His legacy is in the parks he managed, the woodlands he planted and the greenspace professionals he inspired. Before he died, he issued a challenge to his family, friends and colleagues: to make woodlands more accessible for disabled people. He was motivated by his interaction with many groups and individuals throughout his career, but also in part by the mobility issues he sometimes experienced during his illness.

Peter's vision is for a non-profit organisation to:

- campaign for improved standards for disabled people
- advise woodland management organisations on best practice
- develop a kite mark scheme to help disabled people find enjoyable and rewarding days out in woodlands across the UK

If you believe in Peter's vision, please help us launch the scheme.
