Wildfire Destroys Homestead

Donation protected
Amber and Richard's world was forever changed last week.

An active wildfire in southern Colorado, called the Spring Fire, has swept through
90, 000 acres between Fort Garland and La Veta in less than a week.

Amber and Richard's home was in it's path.

My dear friends were living their dream: close to nature in a beautiful valley, as simply as possible. They built a humble cabin with their own hands, using reclaimed materials; it was lovely in its originality.  They built small green houses and fenced bountiful gardens.   Amber, being quite the gardener,  grew and canned/froze much of their food with surplus sold at a local farmer's market.

Richard, an artist and builder, dotted the property with his artistic and functional creations.  Driving OTR for a living, he received an emergency call, allowing him to arrive home just in time to evacuate.

Amber and Richard are so fortunate to have each other, their dog and cat.  However, they are understandably devastated.   Sadly, there was no home insurance.

The homestead, created over twenty years, is now in ashes.  Their "Garden of Eden" is smoldering.  Gone are their clothing, household items, tools and most importantly, the memorabilia accumulated over the years: photos, artwork and family heirlooms.

Amber and Richard, now in their sixties, with little savings, have worked incredibly hard all their lives.  Although faced with this daunting undertaking, they are committed to rebuilding their home, step by step.   They are two amazing, strong, loving human beings who inspire me and many others.

Please assist and support their determined efforts to rebuild, to begin anew.  All monetary donations will go directly to Amber and Richard to be used for supplies of immediate need including clean-up materials as well as tools and building materials for the near future.   Physical labor may also be graciously accepted.

No amount is too small.  Please know that Amber and Richard will be most grateful for any and all contributions.   Prayers and thoughts of good will are also appreciated!

Thank you so much for reading the story of  my dear friends, Amber and Richard.  Please share this with your own family and friends.   Together we have the ability lift their spirits and raise their walls!!
