Widow's Mite Fund

Four years after becoming a widow, I wanted to turn my pain into passion. It was as if God had come down and spoke to me personally. A still small voice said, “Widow’s Mite”, start a foundation to help widows and widowers transition into this new phase of their lives. Well I knew about the story in the bible of the widow who gave all she had and the Lord was more appreciative of her giving because it was from the heart, as well as her last. From there the mind began to take off with thoughts of those who became a widow long before I did but had nowhere to turn for help. I want to turn the lack of help into hope for so many whom seemed to have lost hope because there is no help.

Hope brews help and healing for the bereaved and grieving. Talking about the experience of losing a loved one is healing in and of itself. For a long time, I did not want to talk about my lost nor did I want to be associated with anything which may cause me to remember what I lost. I was not ready to tread those waters but then the same still voice came to me again and said,”How do you expect to help others if you cannot share your story?” I then realized I need to open my mouth and start sharing my story to get over this hurdle. My children were my greatest inspiration. They knew I wanted to start this foundation but they also knew I was saying very little. My oldest son said, “Mom, you gotta get your book finished.” My youngest son said, “Mom, when are you going to get the website done?” By this time, I had not even registered my business name.

Fear began to creep in and I started second guessing my ability to move forward. Question after question arose concerning where to start. Six years later I had an unction to at least get my business name registered and as of right now, I am in the process of becoming a non-profit organization who help widows and widowers receive financial and social support. I thank God for him allowing me to turn my pain into passion.
