Dear Friends of WHITE WAVE!

We at WHITE WAVE are extremely proud of the roaring success of our 2018 SoloDuo Festival, and grateful for your support!

WHITE WAVE is elated over the immense success of our recent 2018 SoloDuo Festival at Dixon Place! We showcased 27 extraordinary Dancemakers and their Companies from the US and abroad, selected by jury through a highly competitive process, to perform on the New York stage. While we did present a number of seasoned Companies, the majority of our line-up were promising relative newcomers to the Dance scene.

Over two days we presented three sold-out performances focusing on the unique role that solos and duets play throughout the world of Dance, in classical Ballet as well as all forms of modern work. Besides functioning as a stand-alone work, a solo or duet is often the backbone of a full-evening work with a larger cast, concisely distilling out the themes and motifs essential to the entire work. Owing to smaller budgets, many emerging choreographers begin their career producing solos and duets.

Your support is crucial to the creative process. Whether you are a fan of a particular company, or friends and family of the performers, all of the Companies are encouraged by an enthusiastic response from the crowd. Your financial support, small or large, is indispensable to continue our work during this era of receding governmental funding.

We invite you to share a video sampling our Festival, as well as interviews with some enthusiastic audience members. Until the 2019 SoloDuo Festival, we hope you will attend some of the many Festivals we produce, in addition to award-winning productions of WHITE WAVE's original dance work with commissioned new music.

With Love and Gratitude,

Young Soon Kim
and WHITE WAVE Team!

Help Keep WHITE WAVE Cresting in 2018!

For the past 30 years, WHITE WAVE Young Soon Kim Dance Company has been New York's premier institution dedicated to the future of dance in all its dazzling forms. WHITE WAVE's mission is to seek, nurture, and broaden the horizons of those rising dance makers who show the most promise to create innovative and lasting contributions to the future of dance.

WHITE WAVE Dance’s Canadian Première of "iyouuswe" at the 2018 Vancouver International Dance Festival was a resounding success!

The Georgia Straight's Gail Johnson raved that "This beautifully crafted piece...present[s] moments of subtle tension, but it pulses most profoundly with harmony." “In duets, trios, and other ever-shifting configurations, things unfurl organically; there’s a natural, poetic rhythm here that hums beneath, as if to imply things are unfolding as they should—whether it’s within a couple or the universe itself.”

In addition to that, we are committed to presenting the work of smaller companies, from the United States and abroad, who are too small to produce evening-length works in New York, the world's dance capital. Through our three annual Festivals, SoloDuo Festival in spring, Wave Rising Series in early summer, and the DUMBO Dance Festival in fall, we provide the opportunity to smaller companies, both established and cutting-edge, from around the world, to present their work on a state-of-the-art New York stage. Further, these younger companies and choreographers gain the crucial experience they need to effectively organize and promote first-class shows in their home locations.

WHITE WAVE is deeply indebted to the amazing support that you have provided through the years. Every tax- deductible dollar you donate provides a moment that will leave a young dancer with a memory for a lifetime. You will open new doors to allow a young emerging choreographer to reach their goals.

Your help is an investment in experience; the reward for your generosity will be sharing our vision to inspire.

Your gift of $25, $50, $100, $500 or $1,000 will make all the difference to

• Help create new works and captivating performances by the world-class WHITE WAVE Young Soon Kim Dance Company

• Allow over 125 dance companies and their choreographers an opportunity to present world premiere performances for the festival each year

• Enable families from every community and every socio-economic background an opportunity to participate in FREE dance classes and performances

• Help to break down the obstacles that emerging dance creators encounter by providing them with a platform to showcase their work

• Allow audiences an unparalleled opportunity to see the diversity of dance expression in a single focused setting.

With your generosity, we can achieve these goals together!

Dear Friend of White Wave.

The Year of the Rooster has arrived! The year will be one of intensity with opportunities to celebrate successes, while being mindful of the trappings of taking things for granted, and resting on our laurels.

White Wave Dance is working intently and intensely on preparing for exciting upcoming dance events:

· May 19th – 21st, we kick off our NYC season highlighted by performing White Wave’s newest production “iyouuswe” at “The LaMaMa Moves Dance Festival” - the undisputed Mecca of cutting-edge performance art, located in the heart of the historic East Village. Please save the dates!

· We have just begun accepting applications to our second annual SoloDuo festival, at the Poets' Den Theater in East Harlem (June 24th & 25th) and for our two-week 11th Annual Wave Rising Series, in association with the Harkness Dance center at the historic 92nd Street Y during the month of July. Both these events draw hundreds of highly qualified applicants from across the US and around the globe.

WHITE WAVE has been fortunate to have earned a number of competitive grants from prestigious organizations to support our work. Most recently, we received a grant from DCA to support our work of hosting festivals. We are grateful for those organizations and the City of New York who are recognizing our contributions to the modern and contemporary dance-scene in NY. Those grants have contributed to the sustainability of White Wave’s festival productions. Producing high-quality festivals (including providing artists with personalized coaching on development, marketing, and technical performance support) requires additional resources beyond that grants.

As our loyal friends and supporters, you have been the backbone of providing additional resources, hands-on involvement, and support in spreading the “Work of White Wave” to near and far friends. We are eternally grateful for your inspiration, perspiration, and contributions.

We invite you to continue to share in the Cresting of White Wave. So this year, as additional benefits of being our supporter, we are offering you and your friends a number of valuable benefits that will enhance your involvement with us. Besides receiving tickets to our shows all year long, you will also receive invitations for evenings of work-in-progress, and to a number of galas and social events to meet with our own artists, guest artists, composers, and collaborators.

Your support will make is possible for us to continue to ride the Halyu (한류; Korean Wave) and to make 2017 our most dynamic season ever!

Please consider making a generous donation to White Wave, and Help Keep WHITE WAVE Cresting in 2017!

Please support us today!
Thank you!

We are so delighted to receive a donation from our long time supporter, fan and friend, Betty Cho! We are incredibly grateful for her generous contribution, which will help us in developing the programs that we have planned for the 2017!

We are also deeply moved by the generous contributions and encouraging comments from our recent donors: Mark Crosby, David Popalisky, David Weaver and Howard Schranz, thank you!!

Over my 4-decade career as a dancer and choreographer, I have collaborated with hundreds of co-professionals to bring the highest level of work to the public. I have worked with many of the most renowned "brand-name" choreographers and musicians in the business, but the task I find most gratifying is nurturing new talent. I am most proud of my continuing mission to bring developing and less-recognized companies from around the world to perform on the New York stage.

In this labor of love, White Wave devotes countless weeks and months to bring this talent to the attention of new audiences: we provide professional staging, lighting & design, and teach them, the basics of marketing strategies for which we bring in consultants. All these activities help us fulfill our mission to assist and mentor up-and-coming talent.

Partly grant-supported we also rely on donations from our audience, and from our wider circle of friends, supporters, and others who care about dance and innovation. To continue our efforts to bring you the best of up and coming artists we ask for your help. Please make a donation now – any amount counts.

On behalf of all up-and-coming dancers and choreographers, we thanks YOU!

May the New Year be a creative and inspirational one.
