Trinity Young Leaders Program (UoM)

Hi, my name is Rashad Heagle. I am a 16 year old male in the tenth grade at Miami Country Day School. I was born and raised in Miami, Florida. I enjoy dancing, taking photographs, immersing in the performing arts, playing sports, helping people, and trying new things. For a long period of time, I have had a strong desire to attend college and reside in Australia. Australia is a very unique country. Australia  contains 4 of the 10 of the world's most livable cities; Melbourne, Australia is ranked the world's most livable city.

My future goals are to attend the University of Melbourne in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, earn a degree in Arts and Commerce, and establish a dance studio called The Australian Dance Connection.

I wish to attend a program that will allow me to experience a taste of college life at University of Melbourne, the college that I aspire to attend. A program that will allow me to learn about other cultures around the world and share knowledge of my own culture (cultural exchange). A program that will allow me to build leadership skills. A program that will allow me to experience life in Melbourne, Australia firsthand.
Trinity Young Leaders Program turns all of my wishes into a reality.

Trinity College  of the University of Melbourne hosts a program called  Young Leaders Program. This program allows students from the ages of  14  to 17  to  experience what is feels like to  study and live at  Australia's number one university. Students that attend this program choose a major that they would like to study after high school. Then, they will participate in activities and study information that pertains to that concentration. These majors, or concentrations, include Arts, Commerce, Sports Development & Management, Fine Arts, Biomedicine, English Intensive for International Students and Leadership for Social Justice, Environment & Sustainability Coastal Discovery, Science, Engineering.

Young Leaders Program's description of their program:  "If you are 14–17 and want a taste of university life, come and join our Young Leaders Programs at Trinity College, the University of Melbourne! More than 220 young people from all around the world participate in these fun and life-changing residential programs during the July and December school holidays. You will form part of a close-knit mentor group and together you will experience an action-packed program; learn about your pathway to the University of Melbourne, be inspired by leading academics, enjoy a range of extracurricular activities, and build lasting friendships with young leaders from around the world. You will experience what life is like at university and residential college in Australia while enjoying outstanding academic and personal development opportunities.  Choose a one, two or three-week academic stream where you will discover how to succeed at university, and develop skills to give you an edge for the future."

Tuition includes the academic program, mentoring, accommodation, meals, field trips, extracurricular activities, return airport transfers and other activities arranged by the College. My project does not take place in the Greater Miami Area, but I do plan to share the knowledge I received in Australia with peers of mine in Miami. I also plan to share information about the different cultures and lifestyles that I learn about in the Trinity Young Leaders Program.

Also, if you have any questions, tips/suggestions, or comments, feel free to contact me by email, phone, or social media. I will gladly tell you more about me, the passion I have for Australia, and what I will seek to share with the world once I experience this program.

Additionally, during my trip, I arrange to collect a small token of apprectiation (souvenir) for each person that donates to my campaign. I also will write a heartfelt letter unique to each donor. Also, since I enjoy photography, I will be taking many photographs that I will share on my personal and photography social media pages.
