Josiah needs a new wheelchair and possibly a new prosthetic leg -- let's help him get them!

Josiah was born with VACTERL, a rare disorder that affects multiple body systems.  VACTERL is an acronym for vertebral defects, anal atresia, cardiac defects, tracheo-esophageal fistula, renal anomalies, and limb abnormalities.  Affected individuals may also have other anomalies.  People diagnosed with VACTERL typically have at least three of the characteristic features.   Josiah is affected by many of these.

Josiah is the sweetest little boy, despite the fact that he endures countless doctor appointments, medications, treatments, surgeries, and hospital stays.

Josiah's insurance company recently denied his claims for a new wheelchair.  (The one he currently uses is being borrowed from a local hospital.)  So, we would like to help his family purchase a wheelchair just for him.

And, overnight on February 28/March 1, Josiah's family's car was vandalized and the perpetrators stole Josiah's backpack AND his prosthetic leg that was inside the backpack.  If the prosthetic leg is not found or is found but is not in good condition, then we would like to help his family repair or replace his prosthetic leg.

Funds raised here will be used solely for Josiah's medical care -- to purchase a new prosthetic leg (if his is not recovered and in good condition) and/or to purchase a new wheelchair.

Thank you for your generosity!  If you are unable to give a monetary donation, then Josiah and his family would be grateful if you send your prayers and good vibes!

Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.

For your kind words. For your donations. For your offers of other support or assistance. For sharing Josiah’s story with others, who then offered their own kind words, donations, or other support.

"Sometimes we have no idea how things are going to work out, but they do . . . just keep believing." Josiah's mom, Brie, posted these words yesterday.

And, she's right. All those who know Josiah and his family are forever grateful for your support. The response to his story and to this GoFundMe site has been incredible. Thank you.

Some of you who donated funds or sent words of prayer or encouragement or reached out with other offers of assistance are people that we know well. Some of you are strangers who saw Josiah's story on social media or via news outlets. Whether you know Josiah (or his family or the organizer of this site) personally or not, you shared your love and light. You reminded us all that good people can do great things. Thank you.

In the midst of this fundraising campaign, so many companies offered support to Josiah. As a result, on Monday (March 4), Josiah was fitted for a new prosthetic leg at Shriners Hospital for Children in St. Louis, and will be getting a new prosthetic leg from them very soon. Other prosthetics companies near and far offered to make Josiah a new prosthetic, and his family may soon be working with one of them on a specialized blade prosthetic. One company recently came forward and offered support with Josiah’s wheelchair, so his family will be reaching out to them. Funds raised through this campaign will be withdrawn by Josiah’s family and used for his ongoing medical care. Thank you for your support of this always-smiling little boy and his sweet family.

Peace and blessings to you all.
