Hello, my name is Kim Hill.

While many of you are familiar with my work in music and film, I get asked the same question regularly – Aren’t you the girl from the Black Eyed Peas? The answer is yes. But that’s far from the whole story. (It’s not even the most interesting part of the story.) A lot of living has happened since those days – motherhood, traveling the world, working in my community, teaching at NYU – and all of it has led to me being founder and creator of Next of Kim. In many ways NOK is an act and expression of my gratitude for it all.

Next of Kim All-Natural Beauty & Body Care launched on Black Friday 2017 after years of testing and development in my home. The process of creating body creams, body oils, and deodorants was personally cathartic, but a bigger and more satisfying payoff was being able to shatter the notion that natural can’t be synonymous with luxury. I’m here to tell you it absolutely can be. And it is, with Next of Kim.

The reason your support is so important is simple: Next of Kim has proven to be a game changer in natural body care. I’ve accomplished a lot with barebones infrastructure. Possibilities would be endless, however, with a team of experienced chemists well-versed in natural and organic ingredients who can match what I’ve created at home but do so on a larger scale. Think of your mother’s pound cake versus the cake from the grocery store. What I’m going for is mother’s homemade treat, made from scratch and with love, versus the usual assembly-line product full of fillers, preservatives, and who knows what. The quality I offer can only be sustained on a larger scale with secured funds that will help me both maintain the high standards of Next of Kim and grow the brand.

Where will your donations go?

· A licensed/regulated laboratory that will develop the formulas and recipes I created in my home and make it possible to mass produce them without sacrificing quality.

· Certifications, i.e. Organic, Vegan, Cruelty Free and Nut Free etc.

· An attorney to protect my intellectual property, recipes and formulas.

· Sustainable packaging

How will your products help me?

The benefits of NOK products are endless, and work for all races and genders. My products have been shown to help to with the following:

Why are there no incentives?

This is a very expensive, time consuming venture. I’ve single handedly created, developed and produced nine products so far. Two more are set to launch in Jan 2019. The point of this fundraising effort is to meet the demands of potential distributors. The only way to meet those demands is by hiring a high-end lab to create and manufacture NOK products. If I used the typical fundraising formula and gave incentives that are lower than my retail costs, I wouldn’t be using the money to expand my brand because those donations would be more sales-based. I’d actually lose money.

Why not get a public investor?

I’ve been approached by several public investors and while it’s tempting, I’d be giving up a substantial portion of my business, which would mean the high standards and quality control that now define the NOK line might be at risk. If there’s anything that’s glaring in our present time, it’s that people of color – especially women of color – need to maintain as much ownership in their own endeavors as possible. It’s our future.
