I sincerely wish and pray that none of you are ever in a position where you feel this way and ask yourself this question.
Yet, this question is not only relevant, but for most people in the third world, an everyday reality.It demoralises you and makes you think that this beautiful world is not worth living in.How unfortunate to feel this way.Yet, too many people in the third world ask this question.One of these is Aqeel Ahmed Awan.
Aqeel Ahmed Awan has a rare form of sleep disorder that is so severe it has lead to his skin becoming infected. He needs to be operated upon to be restored to health.
Due to his illness, he cannot work because he cannot work machinery and he has breathing problems that require a hospital visit every week, sometimes twice a week.Along with a plethora of other diseases like flaking and itchy skin and the inability to concentrate.
He cannot put normal clothes on because he starts itching and most of the time he cannot take the air from a fan either.
Aqeel lives in Karachi with his wife and two children, and in a country like Pakistan, with no free or discounted health, his ongoing treatment of years is impossible. He has used up all his resources for his treatment and now, when he has nothing left, he has turned to us.
His treatment, a surgery of an abnormal sleep lesion, will cost 550,000 Pakistani rupees, which works out to be approximately $4000. He will also require an extended hospital stay after the surgery and medications for a year. Nothing of this is possible without your kindness and support.
Being the breadwinner of the family, an extensive treatment like Aqeel's means that his rent and food for his family will also have to be taken into account during the months that he is in hospital.
Can you find it in your heart to spare some change for Aqeel . He does not have anybody to turn to besides us.
