On December 16th at 10:00 a.m., Wester Elementary was in the middle of having their last full day of class for the first semester when a man fleeing from law enforcement hit a car. His truck rammed into the back end of a teacher's car that was parked on the north side of the school building. The suspect jumped out of his truck and ran across the street, away from the school, before being apprehended. As a precaution, administration put the school on lock down until they ensured the area was safe.
As a result of the truck hitting the back end of the first car (a red Focus...pictured), a domino effect occured. The teachers car hit the back end of another car and this continued until a total of four cars were damaged.
The red Focus is owned by one of our teachers who deals with her only daily struggles and cannot handle the expense or pressure of having to make arrangements for transportation. Due to only carrying liability insurance, and the uninsured-driver who hit her vehicle, the Focus is a total loss.
She is also having to make plans for her mother, who was recently diagnosed with Alzheimers, and having a hard time dealing with that.
On top of that, she's got a very intelligent child who deserves nothing but the best. As of today he's been offered admission to Colorado School of Mine, UT, and to MIT. He is still waiting admission status to Caltech, Stanford, Princeton, and Yale. He's a very talented athlete who competes frequently. Commuting to and from is going to hinder opportunities for him to advance in the near future.
