West London Tower Fire Survivors

£128,072 of £130,000 goal

Raised by 3,848 people in 17 months
In the early hours of Wednesday 14th June, a massive fire broke out in Grenfell Tower, Latimer Road which quickly engulfed the building in which hundreds of people will have been sleeping at that time.

Whilst the firefighers are still struggling to bring the fire under control- what is certain is that homes have been lost- and many families are going to be homeless left with nothing in the coming days and week.
This is an emergency fund to help raise money to alleviate the needs of the families affected. We have friends and family helping in the relief efforts in London who are on the scene and working directly with families affected by the fire.

Local Mosques and Churches have opened their doors to help shelter those affected- The money raised is aiming to purchase emergency items such as clothes/ Blankets/ Food/ Water as necessary through the organisations already on the ground looking after families.

Many Muslim families also lived in the tower block. It is a duty for us as the Muslim community to be at the forefront of helping ALL families affected in their hour of need especially in these last few precious days of Ramadan.  I'll be working closely with National Zakat Foundation, other local organizations and GoFundMe, to ensure the funds are released in the best way possible, and I'll keep all of the supporters of this campaign updated on this

Please donate generously.

Hi and Salaams All. Just wanted to let you know about a few developments for this fund.

Firstly- thank you for all your kind messages and generous donations. In conjunction with National Zakat Foundation, a registered charity (who have been working tirelessly since Day 0 to identify affected families and provide emergency cash grants) we have been able to reach many survivors.

The funds from this campaign have been linked to the NZF account and will ONLY be distributed via the organisation. Please watch here how that money is being distributed:

Secondly, after insisting on GoFundMe to review their fee policy with discretion for this particular fund and given the sensitive nature of this tragedy, the management team have decided to award £5000 back from the fees to the fund. It is imperative that we maintain transparency and ensure that as much money donated by the good will of the public for the survivors REACHES them.

I hope you will all continue to share and donate for the families affected. We are in it for the long haul- life will never be the same for so many people. Let us at least alleviate some of the financial strain- albeit in a small way.

Thank you and JazakAllahu Khairun for your kind hearts and generosity. May all our humble efforts be accepted...Ameen

Salams/Hi All!
Firstly- A MASSIVE thank you and JazakAllahu khairun for your generosity in donating for the survivors of the Grenfell Tower Fire. The support for the campaign has been OVERWHELMING and every day since the 14th has been spent trawling through messages from friends and families desperate for information about those missing and getting help for those that survived as well as kind messages of support. Please bear with me if I haven't answered your query yet. There are 4000+ emails to get through!

A pattern of unacceptable treatment and neglect is emerging from those who have lost everything at the hands of the Government and Local Authority. While we must do everything we can to pressure the Prime Minister to make the £5 million pounds available immediately, funds like this and charitable organisations will be plugging the gaps to ensure families don't spend days in uncertainty about where their next meal/ home is coming from.

The NZF charity who I will be distributing these funds through have been ON THE GROUND SINCE DAY 1.
They have already given emergency cash grants to many surviving families and have a designated help point at Al Manar Cultural & Heritage Center. They too have been working tirelessly to help survivors.
The money raised isn't even £1000 per family. We have a long way to go.
Please continue to support this campaign. Thank you in advance!

Dr Shameela Islam-Zulfiqar

A few points to note about NZF:

1. National Zakat Foundation has been working on identifying families, assessing needs and providing emergency cash grants. It is likely that such emergency support will continue to be required for some weeks. At the current time NZF has direct access to at least 40 families that were residing in the tower.

2. Right now, the exact level of demand for financial resources in the medium term is difficult to ascertain because of;
a) the extent to which official central and local government support actually becomes available

b) the need for a more detailed assessment of specific service provision that may be required beyond what any authority might cover.

3. NZF did not specifically start raising funds for this effort for the above reasons, but is now receiving many requests to accept funds. NZF is happy to accept funds but only with the proviso and clear understanding that whilst every effort will be exerted to ensure that all funds will be used for the direct and indirect benefit of the survivors in the coming months, any surplus money will be utiliised for beneficiaries that NZF serves on a regular basis, namely poor individuals and families across the country who require both emergency funding and medium term financial support and advice.
