Wendys hope to halt MS

Donation protected
My name is Wendy Johnston, I am 40 and  mother of two gorgeous girls. I work as a Special Needs Assistant where I also coach gymnastics, something that I am very passionate about.

I would have considered myself to be quite fit, i enjoyed running, bikram yoga and gymanstics.

Several years ago I noticed the sight declining in my left eye and found it increasingly difficult to walk for longer than 10 -15 minutes without losing the power in my right leg. Little did I know this was the start.

Over the next few years things like this continued to happen, I would loose the power in my arm and drop things, I would find myself more tired then usual and in constant pain. The sports that I loved were becoming impossible for me, yet I always found myself coming up with an  explanation as to why these strange symptoms were occuring, never did I tie them  all together as my immune system being under attack.

It was only in 2014 whilst doing gymnastics that my body really started to give in, the power went down my right side and I couldnt see properly it was very frightening and I knew something was seriously wrong.

After an MRI and a lumbar puncture in January 2015 i was diagnosed with Primary Progressive MS. I have several lesions on my brain and spine which are already effecting my sight and the power down my right side. It also causes a struggle with fatigue and pain  which can make daily tasks very difficult.

With this type of MS  it just progressively gets worse over time and can lead to paralysis and in severe cases can be fatal. Currently there is no cure and no treatment available in Ireland. Several countries offer HSCT (Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplant) which has proven to be effective in many cases in halting the progression of MS.

The most worrying part about this is not the physical impact but becoming a burden on my two children and my family, which is why I have decided to under go this treatment.

I have been given a date for Clinica Ruiz in Mexico for 17th of  July 2017 if I can raise the funds needed . While I am very greatful to be given this opportunity I'm faced with the fact it is a very costly procedure and one I can't afford, which is why I have set up a fundraising campaign in the hope I can raise the necessary funds . Any help with this at all would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for taking the time to read this.
Much love
Wendy
