Alessia Weinrich Support Fund

In the Fall of 2014, Alessia suddenly became seriously ill. The doctors initially could not determine what was wrong, and they prepared her family for the worst. After weeks in the hospital, countless tests and a few operations, it was determined that both of Alessia's kidneys had failed, and they could not be saved. Alessia was diagnosed with end stage kidney disease, and the prognosis was grim. But Alessia is a fighter, and managed to improve enough to be released from the hospital. Since then, she has needed dialysis 3 times a week for 4-5 hours each time to survive while she waits for a life saving kidney transplant.

The rippling effect of Alessia's situation has extended into all aspects of her life and her family's.

Alessia has been unable to work, and through the ups and downs of her illness, her mother Debbie lost her job from being absent to care for her daughter when American Express outsourced the division she worked in to India and Phoenix.

Watching his only daughter fall deathly ill and being helpless to stop it, along with with crippling financial strain of their circumstances, led Alessia's father, Steve, into a terrible bout of depression. Despite seeking medical treatment himself, Steve felt he could no longer watch his life crumble around him. On Thursday, October 28, 2015, Alessia's father took his life.

Alessia had been given the hope of receiving a life saving kidney through a program that would allow her boyfriend to donate one of his kidneys in exchange for a kidney for Alessia. Unfortunately, at the last minute, the donor who was going to save Alessia's life had to back out, devasting Alessia and her family once again. This heartbreaking incident was the breaking point for her father, occuring days before his suicide.

Alessia is a sweet, kind, loving 28 year old who has already had a lifetime worth of pain and misfortune. Still awaiting a kidney, and now with no income between herself and her mother, They have to find the funds to bury her father Steve. The family would have had insurance to pay for the funeral, but it was lost when her mother Debbie lost her job.

If there is any way you can spare $1, $5, or anything your heart leads you to give... Alessia and her family would forever be grateful. There is no amount of money that can replace Alessia's father, or make up for these countless lost days spent waiting for news of another kidney match to save her life, but your financial generosity would help shield her future from the ongoing negative effects of her illness.

If you are not in a position to donate, but have somehow found your way to reading this page, please help by saying a prayer for Alessia and her family. Pray that she finds hope and strength in the middle of this terrible storm, and pray that a kidney is found for her soon. Thank you so much for your time.

This page was created by Heidie Youstin (Alessia's aunt) and Trent Youstin (Alessia's cousin) in conjunction with the 2015 Power-Showcase which will be held at Marlins's Park in Miami, Fl.  Trent will raise money in support of Alessia Weinrich and the National Kidney Foundation, and during the "Home Runs that Help" portion of the Power-Showcase, if Trent hits a home run on his last at bat, the Power-Showcase will match the funds raised.  Thanks again for you support!!
