If we are creative and courageous, the world becomes accessible.

Two years ago, my friends and I decided to backpack through Europe. The catch? I was the backpack. I typically rely on a wheelchair to get around, and our plans were not exactly conducive to that. So, we left my wheelchair at the airport and the guys carried me for three weeks in a specially designed backpack. We hiked the English countryside, climbed the island of Skellig Michael, and explored Paris from one end to the other.

It was an amazing experience, and we've since had the joy of sharing our story to inspire and challenge audiences all over the world. We've also started a nonprofit called We Carry Kevan, to provide backpacks and help others find ways to have similar experiences, both locally and abroad.

Now, we are ready to explore another part of the wide world -- China. We are excited to join with Show Hope on this adventure. Show Hope is an organization that serves orphans with disabilities, with care centers set up throughout China. Our aim with visiting these care centers is to deliver our custom Deuter backpacks for their use, and to be an encouragement to the children, as well as the staff and their surrounding communities. In meeting with these kids and their caregivers, we hope to demonstrate that life is full of possibility and hope. We all have limitations, but through creativity, courage, and community, we can move beyond those limitations and embrace our full potential. As we travel between centers, we will also take this opportunity to see such historic sights as the Shaolin Temple, the Forbidden City, and the Great Wall.

But we need your help to make this happen, by giving financially to the endeavor and raising awareness with us. Join us, too, by following along on social media. We want you to be part of the experience, part of the story. You are invited to help "carry Kevan" and in doing so, carry so many more.

We will be visiting Guilin, Luoyang, and Beijing.

Last week was a blast! I went out west with Ben, Luke, and our friend Joe Sutphin, to speak and show our film. If you follow us on Instagram or Facebook, you saw all the cool events we got to be part of and people we got to hang out with.

We started the trip in Pullman, WA, where we shared at WSU for a diversity seminar and then a banquet for a sweet organization called Boost Collaborative. Our hosts, Steve and Megan Yen, are some of the most amazing people! This is not the last you'll hear of them, I'm sure.

From there, we went up to Victoria, BC, and stayed with my aunt and uncle, Carol and Fritz Christo, for a few days. This is the same Fritz who is our Manager for the China trip, so it was cool for Ben and Luke to spend time with him. I mean, I've grown up with him, but he was new to them, and they to him. Everyone got along great! We also met Danny Quin, who will be our translator on the trip. He's a great guy, really witty, and we all agree he'll fit in just fine with our crew.

While in Victoria, we had a chance to share with a church, a school, and even a branch of the Canadian government. What a wild opportunity!

Finally, we ended up in Vancouver, where we shared at another church and stayed with a lovely couple named John and Sharon. My cousin, Glenallen, joined us for this event, which was sweet because A) he's an awesome guy, and B) he's going to China with us too, so he got to meet the guys and vice versa.

A neat thing we didn't expect was that a lot of our audiences included Chinese people, especially in Victoria and Vancouver. With that, our announcement about going to China this spring always took on a new weight for us. A lot of these folks had either come from there or still had connections, so they understood our desire more than most.

I love seeing how people respond to our story, to hear about their own lives too, and see how we relate to one another. It's such an encouragement to me to see and hear firsthand how our crazy lives have inspired people--both able-bodied and disabled--to overcome fears, make new friends, and think outside the box. The guys and I just can't believe we get to be part of this big adventure!

Thank you, as always, for your ongoing support. This trip solidified more for us what kind of impact this story is having on people, and we are further compelled to continue in our efforts to inspire and equip. And your contributions specifically to this China trip help to make that happen. So, thank you, and we do appreciate your continued spreading of the word.

We have backpacks for the kids!!

Our backpack designer, Deuter Sport, has generously sponsored a set for us to take to the Care Centers in China. Show Hope has several of these Care Centers throughout the country, set up to care specifically for orphans with disabilities. During the second and third weeks of our trip, we will be visiting them and even calling them home.

We are excited to be taking with us a handful of backpacks for the care givers and kids to enjoy together. One of the cool things about this backpack design is that it is versatile for various sizes and needs. So, we will get to train the care givers how to make adjustments for the kids, and use the same backpack for any number of kids, no matter what their size or needs may be.

When we shared with Show Hope this desire to provide backpacks, they pointed out the profound enhancement it will bring to group outings with the kids. They will have closer connection to their care givers and feel a greater sense of security.

We are thrilled to be part of this experience, and are so thankful for your support. There is still a long way to go, though. in this thing called fundraising. Please continue to share our story and direct folks to this page for giving. Thank you, everyone, for joining us in this adventure!

There have been a few articles out recently about our previous trip and the one to come. But today, we were on the FRONT PAGE of my hometown newspaper, which is just really cool! Hey there, Winston Salem Journal.

An exciting update on the team! This week, we confirmed our fifth and final carrier...

As you know, we have a manager this time around, to keep us on track and...not get lost. This role is filled by my uncle Fritz Christo. And since the start of planning this trip, Fritz's son (my cousin) Glenallen has been part of the conversation.

Glenallen is a busy guy, a world traveler himself for work, but he wanted to come with us and we wanted him to as well. So, this week, he was finally able to commit to joining the team! Welcome aboard, cous'!

This solidifies our team, with the returning Tom Troyer and Ben Duvall (whom you'll recognize from our trip to Europe), as well as Joe Schenke and Danny Tenney. We will introduce you to each member over the next few weeks! Stay tuned!

Thanks for your continued support. Please share the story and help us make this adventure come together!
