We the People- Stand with WHS
$5,065 of $4,000 goal
Celebrating diversity in our community is not a political statement. We trust our CCPS teachers to promote an environment in our schools where all students feel safe and encouraged.
Westminster students decided that they would wear shirts with the "banned" poster image to show solidarity with their classmates and respected teachers. I started this campaign as a former WHS student and supporter of the student movement We the People WHS.
We as a community of alumni, parents, and friends can do our part by supporting them financially. The funds raised in this campaign will go directly to defraying costs for shirts to hand out to WHS students. I will be withdrawing the money to purchase the shirts, and the balance will be donated to the Amplifier Foundation. The artist behind this beautiful work did not want anyone to profit from his work, so we will buy as many shirts to distribute as funds will allow.
If teachers cannot use their classrooms to teach tolerance and acceptance, students can stand in solidarity instead.
We are Westminster, We are One, and we stand with our community.
Thank you for your continued support- we are so lucky to stand with such an incredible community of people, in Westminster, Maryland, and around the world!
You can subscribe to updates, learn more about the event on March 1st, and read key action items related to the movement as a whole.
You can also follow We the People-Stand with WHS on twitter!
And send updates/comments/or ideas to email@example.com
Thanks again. We are so incredibly thankful for your support.
Oh my goodness. Thank you, thank you, thank you times a million to every single supporter. I am still in disbelief at what we have accomplished together over the past two days. In less than 48 hours we met a goal, doubled it, met it again, doubled it again, and then exceeded it!
We are working on finalizing a shirt order that is more than we ever expected, and are anticipating that we will still have a balance on this fundraiser when the order is complete. We've decided to donate the remainder of the funds to The Amplifier Foundation, the group that commissioned these works by artist Shepard Fairey. You can find even more incredible, thought-provoking works on their website, and all available for free.
We hope that you are just as motivated, uplifted, and inspired by this campaign as we are. Stay tuned for more updates about shirts and other ways to get involved.
This is an awesome movement about inclusion! No politics necessary for this! I applaud your efforts and send you, faculty and staff of WHS well wishes and thanks from someone who works in a school and believes that all students should feel supported and cared for! My organization(Ayusa Global Youth Exchange) was in your school last week and had the opportunity to visit with some of the faculty there. They expressed their openness to having foreign students in their school, so I suspect this is a top down decision from people in higher decision making roles.
Hello! I love your poster! The circumstances are incredible. We used to live in the Westminster area. My brother in law is a prominent member of the community. My daughter graduated from McDaniel College. I am trying to get a project off the ground with very similar objectives. Mine are much different than yours but we are both trying to achieve an environment for a healthy, free, constructive exchange of ideas. Here is my initial feeble attempts to describe the purpose of my project (It is not ready for prime time, but feel free to take a look): "We are very proud members of President Trump's army of Deplorables, and we can't wait for the formation of the Deplorables Party of the USA. We have been Trump supporters from the beginning. Third party history does not apply here. This is a revolution, a revolution for our very existance. The modern Paul Revere has already raised the battle cry. The objectives are profound and legitimate. This is not politics. It is war. A peaceful war. It is long past time that we the people raise our voices. Washington, the media, and the political elite have not served us for decades. We need your participation, whatever your views. We want to show the world that we can have polar opposite views and still be friends. We only ask that you keep your comments respectful." You can see the page at https://www.facebook.com/DeplorablesInfantry/ I am a senior citizen (75) but I am more passionate about creating a safe environment for discussing wildly different opinions than ever. Best wishes for your "project". Feel free to drop me a line.
How can we go about ordering the T-Shirts in further support of the students? I know other students who would love to stand with you.
Why is there no white woman or Asian woman represented on the shirt or Indian? This is not diverse.
Love this. It is not political at all. It is about being kind to all, no matter race, religion or sex. Shame on those that makes this about politics. We would love the shirts.
Glad to see the new generation of WHS students are willing to look outside of their own lives and see unfair treatment. Read the negative comments on carrol county times, that's the Westminster I went running from when I turned 18. You guys are making me proud. Keep up the brave fight and please let me know if your shirts become available for purchase. #popthebubble
South Carroll alumnus stands with WHS students and diversity! ♥
Sorry the donations are closed, but I want to commend your effort and encourage your activism. The posters are art. The fact that they happened to be carried in a march does not make them anti-Trump, simply anti-bigotry and hatred. Would the teachers who reacted against the posters insist that the American flag be taken down because it was carried in the marches?
Your online link the in 3rd update isn't working, but I did find you on facebook. I applaud your efforts and the very thoughtful way you are addressing this issue! Sorry to see you are no longer accepting donations. Please consider offering t-shirts for purchase. You would have support across the nation. I see many folks interested in purchasing a t-shirt. Myself included!!
I would love it if you would make the T-shirts available for purchase - PLEASE!!!! (Plus-sizes, too, please)
Where can we purchase a tshirt?
Political propaganda has no place in public schools. Shame on the teachers.
I would like to purchase a t-shirt.
Just tried to donate and was told no more donations were being accepted. Please let us know if there is anything else we can do to support you. I am so proud of you all for standing up for tolerance and acceptance!
I would also like to purchase a t-shirt.
Please let us know how to purchase shirts. I'll need a few...
Glad to see the students joining the Resistance. Stand up, fight back! This may be the most important fight of your life! We will not tolerate intolerance!
If you have any shirts left (or print more), I would definitely like to donate for this important cause. And hopefully get a t-shirt. But most importantly, I want to support the message behind this fundraiser. Thank you!!
