On Saturday, September 10th, due to a major and tragic miscommunication, Thad fell over 100 feet from the top of Holy Grail (which he had just sent). Miraculously he is alive, has no internal injuries or paralysis. However, he sustained major traumatic injuries to his jaw, pelvis, and right ankle, among many other things. He will have numerous surgeries, and recovery will be a long process.

We are raising funds to help he and his family, as Stacy will be unable to work for at least a couple weeks, and Thad will be unable to work for the foreseeable future. It is hard to say exactly how much will be needed at this point, but we will start with $35,000. As well, plans are already in the works for a local fundraiser in Durango. Thank you so much for donating.

And thanks again to the incredible group of WFR-certified climbers who saved Thad's life, as well as the excellent SAR team who rescued him, the awesome Flight For Life Crew, and the attentive and kind doctors and nurses at Mercy.

Please email thadrecoveryfund@gmail.com if you would like to offer additional assistance for the fundraiser or anything else, or if you just want to send love to Thad.

Hey y'all! Just an update that we have a really neat fundraiser happening for Thad this Thursday, November 30th at the Animas Theater. We are featuring our very own Steve "Doom" Fassbinder, professional mountain biker, doing an opening presentation on bike packing in Pakistan; followed by an overview of climbing big alpines routes around the globe by world-renown alpinist and award-winning author Kelly Cordes. Doors open at 6p.m., and the first 150 people get a free beer, generously donated by Ska Brewing. Tickets are $25 at the door or $20 if you buy them in advance here: http://www.seekinghighground.com

We'll be giving away a few really great items, including a packraft by Alpacka Raft, and having a silent auction with a bunch of climbing gear from various companies, and tons of stuff donated by local businesses.

Thanks again for your support!

Thad, his Dad, and I returned to Denver this weekend for Thad’s jaw reconstruction surgery. After six hours in the OR yesterday, Thad now has a jaw bone made out of his leg bone. Pretty crazy stuff! The doctors all said the surgery went extremely well. Although having him back in a hospital bed with very limited mobility and in quite a bit of pain feels like a step backwards, we’re very thankful to have this big procedure crossed off the list so Thad can continue to move forward in his healing process. Thank you all so much for your continued support these last couple of months. It has meant more to us than we could ever express. ❤️ Stacy

Thad is coming home TOMORROW!! He will be discharged from St. Anthony’s in the morning, a miraculous four weeks after the accident, and get to spend a month healing at home before traveling back to Denver for the next round of surgery on his jaw. We couldn’t be more happy, relieved, and thankful. ❤️ Stacy

I’m back in Denver visiting my guy in REHAB! Thad is crushing his physical therapy and occupational therapy tasks. Both the PTs and OTs are impressed with how quickly he is learning and with his physical strength. Regular trips outside and some time with Wally and Hazel have helped to lift his spirits as well. We’re still uncertain as to when Thad will return to Durango. The next round of jaw surgery is one of the determining factors and we have not received any news there yet. Now that Thad has been able to see for himself how amazing our friends, family, and community have been in supporting us through this, he asked me to send his love and gratefulness. We are so thankful for all of you!!! ❤️ Stacy
