Jovanna's Tooth Fairies

One year later.....
January marks a year since the first surgery to remove my bottom row of teeth. It has been a remarkable journey. The pain of initial surgery was difficult ,but by God's grace I recovered. I have been blessed beyond measure by family, close friends and strangers. My heart is in awe of how God works. Currently though I am in limbo. I would be lying if I said that waiting has been easy. In order to complete the process and get my implants as well as bridges, I'm in need of $3,700.  Once the funds are there, I will no longer have to wear the denture.  My tooth fairies, I ask that you please continue to share and pray. I appreciate you all more than you know.

BIG NEWS FOR ALL TOOTH FAIRIES!
Jovanna has found a dentist, Morrison Dental, who has given her a treatment plan that she is happy with at a lower total cost. Phase 1 of her treatment will be to remove her lower teeth and place 6 implants and a healing denture. Phase 2 will take place three months later, when they will create bridges to fit around the implants to give her a complete new set of lower teeth.

The total cost of Phase 1, which is set to happen on January 4th, is around $11,000, which is exactly what we've raised so far. The cost for Phase 2, which will happen in April, is another $11,800. When we initially set out to raise $30k, it was a ballpark, not exact, figure. However, since there are some upper molars that also need to be dealt with in the future, we really weren't that far off. At the very least, we need to raise $22k to get her lower teeth done.

Here's where you come in: we are going to be using every penny of the $11k that we've raised so far and we are proceeding BY FAITH that another $11k will come in by April so that Jovanna can implement Phase 2. We're moving ahead because Jovanna simply cannot wait any longer to start treatment; she's been in the emergency room several times in the past months with abscesses and sinus infections caused by her teeth.

Please be in prayer for her as she goes through the upcoming surgery and please pray about how much you can give to make Phase 2 a reality. Thanks for all you've done so far!

Jovanna's Story

Jovanna Nicole Javis brings to mind Shakespeare's famous quote: "And though she be but little, she is fierce." Right now, our small but mighty friend needs our help because no one, no matter how fierce, can fight all her battles alone.

Here's the issue in a nutshell: Jovanna needs a new set of teeth because her old ones, through no fault of her own, have to go. Through a combination of implants and dentures, she will be able to retain her beautiful smile. The only obstacle standing in her way is money.

Background

Jovanna's teeth inexplicably began to cause her problems after she got her braces off at age 18. Previously small cavities became huge as her teeth became infected and abscessed, and a few had to be pulled. She fought through these problems as she worked her way through Armstrong State University to earn her B.A. in Psychology.

Jovanna's dream at that time was to leave Savannah and pursue a Master's in Clinical Psychology at Western Michigan. However, events in her life conspired against her plan. A few weeks after her graduation from college, Jovanna's father passed away from cancer, leaving the family without its major breadwinner. One year later, her mother suffered a massive stroke, leaving her unable to speak or walk.

With no one to take care of their mother, Jovanna and her younger sister were thrust into the role of caregivers in their early 20s. Jovanna continues to manage her home responsibilities, her job as a behavioral therapist with autistic children, and her extensive service as a volunteer at Latechurch with the grace and strength that come from her strong faith. She balances all of this while studying to earn a Master's in Counseling from Liberty University.

The Problem and the Solution

A consultation with a reputable dentist in Savannah a few months ago revealed some shocking news: the condition she has is called rapid dental caries. What causes it? Genetic factors, maternal nutrition, and acid/PH levels in the mouth have all been proposed, but in short, bad bacteria are attacking and destroying her teeth at an alarming rate, despite her best efforts to keep the problem at bay. Infection in her mouth could go to her heart, with serious consequences.

Jovanna is now working with several dentists in Savannah and elsewhere to find the best, most affordable option for her. She must, however, have the money in hand before the work can begin.

A Final Word from the Word

The Bible tells us in James that "religion that God our Father accepts is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress . . ."  Jovanna finds herself in a serious situation without family who can help. Let's be her family at this vulnerable time in her life.  Like Job , we will be able to say, "I rescued the poor who cried for help, and the fatherless who had none to assist him."

Thank you in advance for your generosity.
