REOPEN THE BEA GADDY FAMILY CENTER SHELTER TODAY!
You know, we talk about homelessness… I’ve been homeless all my life until I came to Baltimore. And everything I do for people today is what I’ve always wanted people to do for me. To feed me, to care for me, give me warmth, to show me where I was wrong and put me on the right path.
-Bea Gaddy
Known as “The Mother Theresa of Baltimore,” Bea Gaddy served over 100,000 people in her lifetime. After her passing in 2001, her family has worked hard to maintain her integrity and legacy by continuing the operations of the Bea Gaddy Family Center Shelter and Food Pantry. The family was forced to close the shelter last summer due to some unforeseen expenses and outstanding bills that they were unaware of. The building has since been awarded to an outside agent. Although the food pantry is still in full operation and continues to provide food for 600 Baltimoreans monthly, it has been heartbreaking for Bea Gaddy’s family to inform women and children in need that the shelter is closed. In negotiations with the attorneys, the Bea Gaddy Family Center must pay $8300 in order to reobtain the building and reopen the shelter. The Bea Gaddy Family Center is requesting a total of $9,200.00 (including GoFund Me fees) to once again provide a safe haven for women and children during the storms of life. Bea Gaddy and her famous Thanksgiving dinner is an integral part of Baltimore’s history. We must work to keep her legacy and spirit of giving going. Please consider donating today.
