WarYoga, Roots of Tradition
I am raising money to finance an educational journey to study one of the lesser known practices of Yoga, called Gada swinging. Gada swinging is practiced in India's traditional wrestling gyms, called Akharas. I have for the last several years learned to both swing and construct this traditional tool. Even though I have worked full time my entire adult life, my financial responsibilities with three sons here in the US prohibits me from taking the next step on my educational journey and travelling to India to learn more about the practice, construction of the tool and it's context in the Akhara, the traditional wrestling gyms. I have a contact there who has hosted similar expeditions in the ancient city of Varanasi, having trained in Akhara from boyhood. I am asking for donations to not only further my own journey, but to help preserve a part of Indian and therefore world heritage.
In addition to my skill and training in gada swinging and wrestling, I have been honing my skills of observation, synthesis and writing communication which will assist in bringing documentation of the journey and an experience and record of the practices that will be sharable as an essay or book. I am highly motivated and consistent and all funds will be used for the preparation and completion of this project.
I will be accompanied by two well known and experienced gada swingers and world travelers in August of next year, 2019.
Thank you for your consideration.
