Who are the Walden's?
Stephanie and Brandon Walden have been married nearly 13 years. They've led worship together for over 15 years. Several years ago the Walden's recorded their first family album,"I've Got a Song In My Heart". Most of those songs were written for and with their young children (Sterling, Elle, Sophie & Ruby). Truth be told...as the years have progressed Brandon & Stephanie have continued to write songs geared toward children. Yet, in the process of regularly leading worship at their local church, Navah Church KC , they've realized that songs they've writtenfor the body in general are as much "family" as any other songs they have written. They've spent the past several years in that context more than any other. This album is a bit more of an expression of that. It is a collection of songs Stephanie and Brandon wrote over the past couple of years for the greater church family. Their children join them during some, but not all of the songs.
About the project:
The album, yet to be named, was recorded live in their home with friends in their community. They brought in sound gear, lights, cameras and everything needed to capture the event. They tracked all afternoon and well in to the evening. The Walden's gathered some of their favorite musicians to join them in this endeavor. At the helm of the project was their dear friend, Beau Davidson. He acted as director/producer and all around curator of the project. The Walden's recorded their first family project with Beau years ago. Jake Mytzka played the role of engineer throughout the evening and is assisting Beau on the back end of the project mixing as well. Matthew Callewaert (Cal) was on electric guitar. Gregory Kolsto laid down the bass lines. Corey Evans held everything together on drums. Stephanie was on keys and vocals while Brandon was on acoustic guitar and vocals. Lastly, the Walden girls also joined them on vocals during a couple of songs as well.The album is a collection of songs about identity, the goodness of God, grace and even an arrangement of The Lord's Prayer.
What is it the Walden's do?
The Walden's have cultivated a place of presence in their home over the years...hosting worship nights with others in their community as well as other times with their children. Now, they are venturing in to a new season by sharing these times across the country in places of worship as well as other's homes. They want to bring family worship to other families across the country. After years of pursuing entrepreneurial efforts as priority and putting ministry as a "future" purpose... God interrrupted their plans and re-directed their efforts this past fall. The Walden's are in the biggest fight of their lives for the dreams God placed in their hearts. However, one thing they feel compelled to do is demonstrate faith and trust in the Father before their children. They are choosing to include their children in the process of prayer, but also in the process of ministry. Their children bring such a purity and innocence to the space that things just happen with them included. Now, with no home and no security the Walden's are launching out in faith this summer. They will be travelling across the country the duration of the summer sharing family with families.
What would an event look like with the Walden's?
Well... firstly, there is not a ton of hype with them. The Walden's can set up completely acoustic on a living room couch, or use minimal sound equipment available to project in a crowded room. This is NOT a date night away for parents...this is a bring your kids kind of time. This season has consisted both of Stephanie and Brandon writing songs. Also, Brandon has written a children's book that will be shared as well. They are setting out this summer on what they're calling the "Faith and Family Tour". This tour is a bit of a pilgrimage for the Walden's. As of June 1st the Walden's will not have a home of their own. They will travel from plae to place to see where they're supposed to land. In the interim they are staying with host families and AirBnb's across the country. They've always loved travelling with their girls on road trips. However, never with the intent of sharing their songs and stories. House shows will be the bulk of the "tour" while other church settings will also fill out summer dates as well. An evening with the Walden's in your home will be much like bedtime. Gather with your friends...cozy up on floor pillows...worship along with their family. The evening will round out with a reading of "Seeds and Trees", a children's book Brandon authored and is in the process of publishing. Timing of project and need:
This project would not be as far as it is already without the generosity of those who came, played and have already logged countless hours in mixing, editing, etc. However, if we want to have this album in people's hands by the end of summer...we need to raise the funds within the next 30-45 days.
Breakdown of funds needed:
$3,500 additional studio recording costs for final tracking
