Please help Wade MacLeod fight Brain Cancer

We would like to start by telling you about this incredible young man, Wade MacLeod and his beautiful young family.

Wade is 31 years old and has spent his entire life dreaming of being a husband, and father while playing in the NHL.  This dream almost came true 5 years ago, but while playing for Springfield Falcons in the AHL, Wade suffered a grand mal seizure on the ice, which led to the discovery of the first tumour.   Wade returned to the game a year later, after undergoing  brain surgery to remove the tumour.  Following surgery, Wade lost the ability of speech and spent 3 months undergoing speech therapy.   His dream of being a husband and father has come true with a beautiful wife, Karly and 11 month old baby girl, sweet Ava James.  Wade’s courage and unwavering determination to be a loving husband and father and still play the game he loves so much has been an inspiration to us all.  Since then, Wade’s tumour has relentlessly grown back 3 times.  Each time, Wade returned to the game but his dream of playing in the NHL was over.

Wade was going to return to playing hockey in Dresden, Germany, this August.  That dream was dashed as our dear friend Wade MacLeod is now preparing to have his 4th brain surgery in less than 5 years.

He has a Grade 3 Glioblastoma tumour and it has come back, once again, with a vengeance, after going through surgery only 2 months ago!

What this means for Wade and his family, is that they have to incur all prescription costs that he will have to take his entire  lifetime as well as any treatments outside of his basic medical services plan, which is weighing heavily on their finances and they will not be able to sustain the strain with no income.

Wade’s recovery would be so much easier without the financial strain as he is no longer able to provide for his family.

Thank-you for taking time to read this and consider funding to this cause.

Hello everyone,
I just wanted to give you all a quick update on my process. As most of you know, I have completed radiation and am currently on a 6 week break from chemotherapy. The radiation went well and although I haven’t gotten the results, I strongly feel it was successful and it kicked that remaining tumor in the ass. I will have a follow up MRI in about 3 months to see my progress, along with starting with my 5 days of chemotherapy per month for at least 6 months. I will continue to do 3 days a week at Integrated Health where I receive an IV drip to counter balance with chemotherapy, as well as a hypothermia treatment twice a week. Thanks to all of you, I have the opportunity to pursue these additional treatments to help my chances to become in remission and remain in remission.
I recently did a podcast interview with a friend of mine who wanted to share my story. I haven’t shared this with many people but following my last surgery, my speech was once again impacted. I didn’t lose it completely, but I will need to follow up with speech therapy which will begin on December 19th. I am happy to share my story with you all and am looking forward for you to see my progress over the coming months as I continue to fully recover from my surgery and treatment. Here is a link if you are interested to listen:

Thank you all again for your love and support and most importantly thank you all for your generosity! You cant imagine what it means to Karly, Ava, and I and we will update you with the good news as it comes.

We (Wade, Karly & Ava) would like to thank each and everyone one of you from the bottom of our hearts for this tremendous and humbling gift you have all given us.

On August 23rd, Wade had received a call from his surgeon informing us that his tumor had grown back after only 2 months post surgery. He needed to have emergency brain surgery for the fourth time, 3 short days later. We instantly knew this meant that this time around, he would require chemo and radiation. Our hearts were broken as we began to process everything.

As we were waiting in the hospital for his surgery, Mike Armstrong began this go fund me page and it filled us with so many emotions. After seeing the instant outpour of love and generosity, we were all so taken back. This is something we never thought in a million years we would require, but with a combination of the loss of income, no extended medical and compiling health costs, this has given us a tremendous weight being lifted off of our shoulders.

We can never put into words our gratitude… not only for the generosity, but also simply the love and support we have received from all over the world... from strangers, from acquaintances, from old friends, new friends and of course our amazing family. Some people live a whole life and never get to experience first hand just how much people care for them, love them and support them. For the fact that we as a family were able to receive this gift alone, has been so surreal, humbling and so much more than anyone will ever know.

Following Wade’s surgery, we have been focusing on our mind, body & soul as we prepare for this next chapter that we for sure will overcome. We have been patiently waiting for Wade’s treatment to begin which includes 6 weeks of radiation & chemo, followed by 6 months of chemotherapy. We have a long road ahead but are in a place where we feel strong and positive going into it all. Today marks the first day of Wade’s radiation and the first day towards putting his tumor behind us once and for all.

Because of all of you, you have inspired us in so many ways. You have also given us a mindset of gratitude which changed our hearts from feeling broken to feeling full. Full of hope and full of love. This morning, Karly’s Mom shared this quote with us and it couldn't be any more true with how we are feeling:

“Gratitude turns what we have into enough, and more. It turns denial into acceptance, chaos into order, confusion into clarity. It makes sense of our past, brings peace for today, and creates a vision for tomorrow.” - Melody Beattie

We hope you feel our gratitude and that this message inspires you to continue doing acts of kindness towards everyone you love in your life.

We love you all so much!

Love forever & always,
Wade, Karly & Ava

We have worked out the suspicious donations and we now have a legitimate total raised for Wade and his family.

What an amazing total it is!

August 29th/18.

Hello All,

There has been some suspicious donations to Wade's fund in the last 24 hours that we are dealing with. It seems that in a time where so many are doing there part to help Wade and Karly, there are still not very nice people out there trying to profit from their situation.

Between these people, there has been 35 bogus donations totaling $ 21,528 dollars. Because of this, our total raised for Wade is not correct.

I will keep everyone posted as we deal with GoFundMe on this issue.

Thank you all for your support and keep sharing Wade's story.

Best Regards,

Mike Armstrong
