BVHS T.E.A.M. Peer Tutoring

Over the past four years, Bonita Vista High School's T.E.A.M. Tutoring (Tutor, Educate, And Motivate) program has been providing academically at-risk students with free tutoring, academic counseling, and mentoring. The T.E.A.M Tutoring program is driven by over 50 volunteer peer tutors and student mentors that must clear an academic screening, and interview. These are some of Bonita Vista’s top academic students volunteering to not only improve academics, but to motivate, build relationships, build self-confidence, and build self-esteem.
Many of the academically at-risk students are assigned to our program based on low math and English grades, and are at risk of failing these classes. Our goal is to identify what is lacking, comprehension or motivation, and help the student by assisting them with extended instruction, encouragement, and by offering multiple levels of support.
The T.E.A.M. Tutoring program had a break out year in 2015-2016! Statistically the program’s success rate drastically improved, and more students “graduated” out of the program by raising their grades to Cs or better! This year we have introduced a new tier to the program that supports the “Each One, Teach One” philosophy. Each T.E.A.M. graduate is given an opportunity to remain in the program by becoming a mentor to incoming academically at-risk students. The ultimate goal is for the mentors to become T.E.A.M. peer tutors!
As the program grows we are seeking donations to strengthen our organization. It is our goal to put our tutors and mentors through professionally administered leadership trainings and nationally accredited peer tutor trainings. We would like to be able to provide needed school supplies for our assigned students, uniforms for our tutors and mentors, create banners representing the program to be placed in our community, and provide an end of the year awards banquet. We are also seeking donations of gift cards, catering, sporting and theater event tickets, and memorabilia, to use as incentives to promote motivation within the program.
We hope that you will be able to join us in funding the development of our T.E.A.M. Tutoring program. We are seeking to raise $3000 for our 2016-2017 school year.
