Kidney Transplant Care

A GoFundMe is not something I ever thought I'd be having to make. I've always been the kind of person who would rather help people than need the help, but some situations can't be controlled. In May of 2017 I was only 23 when I walked into the emergency room, thinking something was wrong with my gallbladder, and was told instead my kidneys had failed and I needed to start dialysis immediately because I only had hours left to live. I didn't even know what dialysis was then. I spent around the next eight or so days mostly in intensive care. I have to have a catheter placed in my neck to start on dialysis before I had a "perma-cath" placed in my chest until I could have surgery for a more permanent way of dialysis. It's over a year later and I'm still on dialysis, waiting and hoping for my transplant. I know it'll come one day, whenever that day is. As you can imagine the medical bills have been numerous and my income took a huge hit with my illness. I've been a full time author since 2012 and I've done very well for myself, but getting sick meant no time to write, which meant little book releases and that drastically cut my income. So, with shelling out money for my regular bills, on top of medical bills, and then  Medicare (Chronic End Stage Kidney Disease qualifies you for Medicare no matter your age) I really need the help. The last thing I want at 24 years old is to have to go onto disability because of what happened to me. No one who is sick or battling a disease should have to worry about how to cover their bills. It's just not right, there's enough to deal handle with the illness alone and I wish something could be done so they couldn't charge so much. If I raise more than I need to cover my bills I would really love to donate what's left over to the National Kidney Foundation or find some way to be able to donate to other dialysis patients. I hate seeing people struggle because of their illness, it's entirely unfair.

The picture I chose to include shows me on the left in October 2016. The picture on the right is me in December 2016 so you can see how much fluid I gained from my kidney failure in those few short months alone. How I made it until May of 2017 before going to the ER is beyond me, but it's a miracle I went when I did and I will never take that for granted.

Anyone who donates, thank you so much. Seriously, thank you for the bottom of my hear. I hate doing this, but I'm comforted by the fact that there are kind and good people in the world.
