Your vision blurs, legs weaken, stomach churns and the sound of the doctors voice slowly fades into background noise as he finishes the most devistating sentence anyone can imagine: "it's aggresive; Id give you two weeks, up to eight..."
Take a second and contemplate those circumstances. What would you do? You'd probably call your family, you'd gather together and grieve, and then as reality sets in you would come up with a plan.
My moms name is Marcia Cornett and that is her story. She was recently informed that she has stage 4 cancer in her colon and that it has spread to her liver. They give her 2-8 weeks to fulfill her last wishes, hopes, and dreams. Like many middle class families, finances have always been a struggle. We now have to condense a half of a lifetime of memories, adventure, and cherished time together into a diminutive time frame. I'm reaching out to family, friends, colleagues, neighbors, and compassionate strangers to help me send my mom out with a hoorah surrounded by her friends and family. Thank you so very much for taking the time to read my moms story. My family thanks you deeply and appreciates the support of our friends and neighbors thus far. My mom has always been a fighter and so we have a saying in our family that's simple, sweet, and meaningful: "we are soldiers..." We fight. She'll fight. And when it's all said and done, we'll be proud of how she left.
