Mitzu needs a brace/no ampution

My name is Jessica and I love to help animals.  As a matter of fact, I foster kittens for a non-profit organization.  We have 4 cats of our own and we keep my 23 year old son's cat, Mitzu, while he goes out of town to work so he pretty much lives with us.  My son has a disability and Mitzu has been a lifesaver at times for his major depressive episodes.  Right now he is so motivated to raise money to pay Mitzu's medical bills that he is far away working as many hours as he can.  Several months ago, my son found Mitzu in a barn, a wee little kitten.  He only had one sibling left as the others had been eaten by who knows what.  The other kitten was adopted by my son's best friend.  Everyone loves Mitzu.  Everyone's heart is breaking.  He is sick.

Here are the FaceBook updates with information about his condition.

This is Mitzu. He is my son's cat that pretty much lives with us while he goes away for work. He is about 10 months old. Last night he got really sick. We took him to the emergency animal hospital because he couldn't breathe. They wanted $800 just to do tests and keep him on oxygen over night. Since we have so many pets and we foster kittens, we really don't have $800 to spend on testing and such, let alone the cost of treatment. So I paid for the visit, the bit of oxygen treatment he received, and the steroid shot. First thing this morning, he was the same, if not worse. Took him to our vet around the corner and they put him in an oxygen chamber and are waiting for the vet to arrive to order xrays and blood tests.

I know that every day on FB I see prayer requests for humans and animals and I try as hard as I can to think about and pray for those people. This morning, everyone in the house was crying because we were afraid he would not make it through the night and was on his last leg. I would appreciate anyone who could pray or send positive thoughts his way. I know everyone says this about their pets, but, he really is the BEST cat in the world. Thanks so much.

Mitzu update...... the vet just called and said he has a very severe case of pneumonia. In fact, one of his lungs is 'frozen', but his heart is good. He will stay in the oxygen chamber for a few days on IV antibiotics and then when he is out of the woods and can come home, he will be on antibiotics for several weeks. The cost for all testing and treatment and EVERYTHING- exactly what they were going to charge us last night at the emergency vet just for testing and oxygen LOL...... I love our vet.

He still can't breathe but I took him my sons pillow case which smells like him and he was happy to see me.

The vet called and said little Mitsu is doing worse and probably won't make it.

Mitzu update.... the doctor just took another x-ray of his lungs and they are worse than when he went in for hospitalization.  He is fighting though. Just doesn't look good. I still have my paws crossed. I asked what our options were and the vet said continue and try new medication for a bit longer OR put him to sleep. I just can't do that unless he needs it. He is still fighting for life and he is just under a year old. He's not ready to go. He is SOOOOO happy to see us when we visit him. It breaks my heart. Thank you for all of the prayers for our dear one.

We just came back from visiting Mitzu and he is not going to make it unless a miracle occurs. I am taking my grandmother tomorrow to say good bye. They don't expect him to make it until Monday. I have the most beautiful place to bury him in our yard, beside the pond, under the big tree. I bought him some angel wings today.

Well, a miracle is happening...... thanks to all of your good thoughts and wishes and prayers. Last night he was lethargic, urinated on himself, and still had not eaten since being there. This morning I made his funeral box expecting to bring him home in it. However, when we arrived this morning, he was bright eyed and very happy to see us! I held him and he wanted us all to pet him. He purred the whole time we were there! He is still not out of the woods totally but keep praying..... it's working!

This is the burial shoe box I made for mitzu this morning before we went to see him. Hopefully it remains a piece of art and doesn't have to be used for many years.

As of right now, November 21, we have exceeded our budget of about $1500 that we were willing to pay to help Mitzu.  This morning when we went to see him, I was expecting to have to put him to sleep and that would be the end of that.  The vet hospital bill to get him through the weekend will put us at around $2000.  By the time everything is said and done, the estimate is about $3000 for the vet bill. When they do another x-ray on Monday, we will find out how long he will have to stay in the hospital until he can come home.  He will be a special needs cat all of his life (he is only 10 months old) and will be treated as a severe asthmatic.  These treatments will be taken care of by us, that is fine.  He is very much loved and is a blessing to many people in the family.

In short, Mitzu means the world to us and we need help with the extra amount of his vet bills.  We need to raise the money as soon as possible to pay the vet so he can continue to treat Mitzu and our family can make payments for the remaining balance.

We are very charitable people and help others in any way possible.  I was a teacher, before I became disabled and could not work any more, because I loved helping children and families.  Since I stay at home now, I foster kittens as a way of helping in the community.  We also donate to other charitable non-profit organizations.  We are not rich, we do not have fancy cars or fancy things.  We have set asside a little money for emergencies and are using that for part of Mitzu's vet bill.  We have nothing else.  I am an artist and am going to try to sell some pieces to raise money.  Family members are going to have a yard sale to help arise money.  This is a very special cat who helps so many people in our family with depression, especially my son.

As mentioned before, this animal serves a special need in our family, we try to help as many animals as we can, and we are paying for most of the vet bill ourselves.  If we are able to raise the extra $1500 that we need for Mitzu's vet bill, we would be so grateful and humbled by your generosity.  Thank you and bless you.
