Surgery for Chance

was able get surgery for one leg due to the gofundme donations and a rescue putting up the rest. This was originally setup to raise money for both legs, but that wasn’t possible right now. Chance will be able to get the second leg in 3-4 months. I will do what I can to come up with the money by then. This past summer, my sister and I went to Brooklyn to save a dog who was on the "to be destroyed” list just hours before he was going to be killed. We renamed him "Chance", because we were giving him a second chance at life. He has scars all over his face and is missing teeth so Lord knows what abuse he has endured. He was so excited to meet us, it' s almost like he knew we were there to save him. When the shelter worker brought him outside he ran right up to my car and jumped in the back seat. The whole ride home he was in heaven, laying on his back and getting belly rubs. He was so happy. Chance is such an affectionate dog, he just wants to love and be loved in return. He constantly wants to cuddle and give kisses. He has brought me so much joy. Not too long after bringing Chance home, we noticed some weird stuff going on with his legs here and there and planned to eventually get them checked out when we could . One day last month, I noticed he wasn’t walking and was instead dragging his legs around. He would do it on and off. We recently took him to the vet and got him X-rays. It turns out, both his ACL's are torn and he would also need knee correction as well. The vet said it was from before we had him. After watching him walk and looking at the X-rays, the vet said he is probably always in pain. He said he would have to get surgery, but the price is something my family and I cannot afford. We have him on two medications and supplements to try and help for now. Obviously, I knew getting a dog would be a big responsibility, and obviously I knew it was going to be costly. My sister and I knew that and trust me, we have taken on that responsibility and spent a lot of money on giving Chance a good life. We also spent a lot of money on a trainer when we were having some issues in the beginning just so that we could kee him. The trainer told us that Chance definitely has suffered significant trauma. We did whatever we could because we did not want to give up on him, and we still don’t. Either the shelter did not realize he had anything wrong with his legs the whole time they had him, or they didn’t want to disclose it. It gives me such a sense of sadness to know that he has been in pain for so long and not getting any type of help for it. I expected him to have some issues, which I took responsibility for, but I couldn’t have expected this. More and more Chance is having difficulty walking. He drags his legs more often now and there have been a few times lately where he has fallen down the stairs. He still tries to jump and it's so sad to watch. It breaks my heart to see him struggling and I can't help but feel guilty thinking if I had just let them put him down, he wouldn’t be in pain right now. The longer I wait to do surgery, the worse it will get. Lately he has been crying a lot for no reason and I'm unsure if its due to pain or not ;-( Chance absolutely loves his new life and I want him to be able to continue to live it and to live it pain free! I was very apprehensive about doing a gofundme because of what people might think, but here I am, telling Chance's story in hopes that it will touch people enough to make them want to contribute to his surgery. Chance and I would greatly appreciate all the help we can get!
