Mission Statement
As the Catholic community of Shelby County, Iowa we are called to walk in solidarity with the whole human family. This commitment is rooted in the Gospel mandate that every person is to be accepted as if he or she were Christ Himself. We will attempt do this with a spirit of humility by building relationships, friendships, and empathy with the people of the parishes of St. Peter the Apostle in Nicaragua.

The money will be used to assist in a campaign to bring the option of Solar Panels to families of Villa Sandino, Nicaragua.  Many of these rural communities are without the option of power and our goal is to make it affordable for all families.  The funding is partial, requiring the families to pay the additional part.

1. We hope to build long term relationships, and friendships with the people of the parishes of St. Peter the Apostle in Nicaragua.
2. We will spend time listening, asking questions, and learning in an attempt to understand their lives culturally, spiritually, and economically.
3. We hope this understanding will encourage a tradition where all peoples are treated with hospitality, dignity, and respect in Shelby County.
4. We will support the people of Nicaragua in their efforts to build a better quality of life when we are asked and as we are able.
5. We hope to unify and strengthen relationships between the Catholic communities of Shelby County.
6. We will encourage the formation of Shelby County Catholics on Jesus’ call of solidarity with the poor and the teachings of the Catholic Church on social justice issues.

Please enjoy a few photos from our Nicaragua visit in 2017. We are celebrating mass with Padre Alexis and posing with the solar panel installers at a families home who are about to receive electricity for the first time.

We want to thank everyone who has supported our solar panel project with donations and prayers! There are 13 communities in our sister parish boundaries and as of January 2018, nine of those have been completed! We hope to have the remaining four communities done by the end of 2019. This has been a life changing journey, not only for these families who now have electricity for the first time, but for those of us who have watched it all unfold first hand. God bless all of you for your generous support and prayers!
Sincerely, Shelby Co. Nicaragua Partners

Today the guys rode horses around to visit houses with new solar panels. All of the families were very happy with their panels and no one said they had any problems. I also spoke to several more families at church, so in all I probably spoke to half the families that received panels. It was all good.

Please see the attached photos which I think are the real message. These people live in unbelievably poor circumstances. Please discuss the best way to share these photos and this story with all the people who supported this effort.
