Listen to the 11 min. podcast that explains this whole thing.

Underground Writing and the Migrant Leaders Club have been collaborating together for years, inspiring dozens of students in the Skagit Valley of Northwest Washington.
As a result of two (almost three) anthologies of literature created by the students, and an additional partnership with Pulitzer Prize winner Quiara Alegría Hudes, a group of high schoolers are traveling from Washington to New York to speak at the musical MISS YOU LIKE HELL.

This campaign is to fund the traveling expenses of the filmmaker documenting this trip and the stories of the migrant students.
The produced film(s) will be used by the Underground Writing non-profit, the Migrant Leaders Club organization, and by playwright Quiara Alegría Hudes in their further efforts to see a transformed community.

The expenses for the students are funded by a grant from the Ford Foundation. The trip is scheduled for April 11-15, 2018.

Here's a short teaser from our trip. It was an incredible experience for the Migrant Leaders/Underground Writing students. Imagine visiting the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island with 15 high school students whose families are working on farms along the west coast. That's what we did!
We're back! Here's a teaser!

We leave tonight for New York!

The people I've spoken to are just getting out of the planning/preparation phase and into the excitement phase (after the red-eye flight).

If you care to hear the voices of these 15 Migrant Leaders, if you want to help share their stories and experiences, if you have a hunch that our society should support youth with art, theatre, travel, and new experiences, please contribute to this project.

It's kind of complicated, but the gist of it is this: students from the Migrant Leaders Club of Mount Vernon Public Schools in Washington State have been collaborating with Underground Writing, an arts non-profit that holds literature and creative writing workshops to share unheard voices.

Those students are traveling to New York to speak at the musical "Miss You Like Hell", written by Quiara Alegría Hudes. Quiara wrote the forward to the most recent anthology from Underground Writing, which is titled "What No One Ever Tells You".

This campaign is raising funds for the traveling expenses of the filmmaker set to document this trip. That's me. I work closely with Matt, the director of Underground Writing, and love Janice's work with the students at the Migrant Leaders Club.

I'm the Communications Administrator at Tierra Nueva, where Underground Writing was launched. My job is to share non-profit's stories.
