Victor Clarizio (formerly Victor Reed) of Bethel, CT is a 44 year old man that was diagnosed 14 years ago with a rare neurodegenerative disorder Spinocerebellar ataxia17 (SCA17). He has already defied the odds living into his 40’s and has been visiting a hospital for them to watch his progression, so as to help someone else who has a similar disease. He has gone from being a healthy young father of 2 children to a man totally dependent on his single mother, Gina Clarizio and his care-givers. He was moved to nursing home in 2011 because he needed more care than his mother could do at home but in 2013, she couldn’t stand to see him living at the nursing home with the elderly, so she decided to bring him home for a better quality of life with round the clock care which is being funded by the Medicare Program – Money follows the patient.
When Victor was originally brought home he could still use his mother’s existing space, which was equipped with stair chair, shower grab bars and hospital bed. Since then, his condition has progressed and will continue to progress. He is wheelchair bound and now needs doors and bathroom shower wheelchair accessible. Victors Mom is a Single Parent who has used all her resources to keep him home already. The Medicare Program – Money follows the patient will not cover this work. She is a single women who owns Taormina Restaurant and is considering selling the business if financial help isn’t available. She simply cannot afford to pay for the approximate $10,000 renovation so that Victor can stay home and not have to go back to the nursing home.
Before Victor became ill, he was active in the Bethel community and worked for Minute Man Press International. His 2 children now live with their mother in New Jersey. His mother is a wonderful caring person, always giving to others, and never asks anything for herself....but now she needs help for her son and would appreciate any help you can offer. Thank you in advance for your help.
