My name is Steve Bailey and I am the Chair of the Berklee College of Music Bass Department. Victor Bailey, a legendary bassist who passed away on Nov. 11, 2016, was a wonderful friend and musical brother for almost 4 decades (we joked that we were “cuzzins”). Victor was my first hire when I started at Berklee almost 5 years ago. Without much formal teaching experience, he instantly assimilated into the department, which includes over 350 bass students and 25 faculty members. His experience, expertise, and sense of humor, affected many, many lives during his tenure. He loved the sense of family, responsibility, and stability that Berklee afforded him. He attended Berklee as a student back in the 70's. His first couple of years as a teacher, he continued to tour but remained so committed to teaching that he would Skype lessons into his students from wherever he was in the World.

When he became too ill to work, his Berklee family took good care of him, visiting, attending to his needs, and hanging with him as his muscular dystrophy (and later diagnosed as ALS) took his legs, hands, and eventually his lungs.

We love Victor and want to help endow a scholarship that will, in perpetuity, help young Berklee Bass students prepare for the kind of stylistically diverse musical journey that Vic forged for himself.

As an instrumentalist, composer, bandleader, and educator, Victor had acquired the status of "Living Legend", and you can help us insure that the legend lives on.

Your donation, however large or small, will help make the musical world a better place, while honoring one of the greatest bassists of our time.

Thank you,
Steve Bailey and Berklee Bass Department
