Hello my name is Rebecca Mcnair and this is Vic's remarkable story of heart break and of amazing hope. On 11/19/17. Vic got the phone call that he had been waiting on for over 8 years. After a 16 hour surgery, This 10year old boy received a liver, pancreas, and small intestine. This story begins in December 2006 when Vic was born with a disorder called Short Gut Syndrome. He was not expected to live past the first 24 hours.The Dr's were stunned that he made it through the night. As Vic grew his small intestine was ineffective so special IV fluids were given to provide nutrients. Vic received these infusions 12 hours every single day to give his body what he needed to survive. Although this was a life sustaining measure, its long term use damaged his pancreas and liver, he gradually slipped into multiple organ failure. Sadly the meds he needed to keep him alive were, at the same time, destroying his body. Vic was born in Clevland, Ohio and at the age of 1 Vic was displaced from his biological parents and placed in foster care. He rotated through the system until about the age of 2. Vic was finally placed with a foster parent in Ashland, Ohio who later adopted him. She loved and cared for him very much. Over his lifetime this amazing boy underwent 26 surgeries and mutiple medication changes. As time went on Vic's adoptive mom lost their family home due to financial difficulties. At this time Vic was also separated from his best friend a younger foster sibling,who ironically already underwent the same transplant surgery that Vic needed. Tragically, Just a little over a year later in Feb 2017 Vic lost his adoptive mother to depression. Vic was placed into a facillity by children services. Once again Vic was waiting on organs and for a new home. My sister Annie was one of Vic's home health nurses at the time of his mothers death. Vic came to live with my Annie at her Mansfield home in March 2017 and she gained legal custody shortly after. She describes it as an honor to share her home and heart with him. We are raising funds to help with expenses related to his medical needs as she will not be working while he recovers. She and Vic would greatly appreciate you sharing this as well as any donation given. Vic will recover in the hospital in Clevland Ohio for approximately 2-4 months. Annie also expressed that if enough funds are raised she would like to make room in her home for more special children in need like Vic. Specifically she would love to reunite him with his best friend who is currently waiting on a forever home.
