 Roseburg, OR
My cousin, Cheyeanne Fitzgerald, 16, started her college career early this year at Umpqua Community College. She is looking forward to a career in nursing. The unspeakable happened on October 1st at UCC. Chey started her day by grabbing a coffee on her way to class and texting her mom saying she loved her, and to have a beautiful day. God was looking over her that day as she was shot but now is recovering in ICU at Mercy Medical Center in Roseburg, Oregon. She has a long recovery ahead in both physically and mentally. Your prayers for our family would be greatly appreciated, as well as any contributions.

I LUV Cheyeanne's FB post about the "f---er" - THIS was one of the greatest things i've EVER heard! What amazing spunk and strength in the face of a cowardly bully! And, for a 16 year old! FAR beyond her years, clearly an extraordinary girl and family of wonderful women - I gave TWICE! The pain of a physical injury will PASS and you've JUST begun. I'm already a committed advocate and giver, but you've encouraged me all the MORE to be bold, take a stand, speak out, commit to advocacy ... Evil never wins if we go on in strength, as you for sure will. Thank you - you and Ana and your families speaking out has been a wonder of inspiration about all that is good, just, strong, amazing about our country.

Cheyeanne... I hope you recover quickly, praying for you. This is your opportunity to reach many. Take advantage of it. If your school was NOT a "Gun Free Zone" perhaps the shooter wouldn't have chosen to put a bullet in you or anyone else on your campus that day. If the sign said "Concealed Carry Zone" that gunman would have left to find an easier target. The only way to stop a bad person with a gun is a good person with a gun. It's sad but true. You were sitting ducks without the possibility of anyone being able to protect you until the police finally arrived. Not their fault, but too late... you are wounded but many were less fortunate. Shame on liberals, shame on gun control. Get well kiddo ;)

Dear Cheyenne, I read that Washington Post article about you. It's like 3 am, and I'm reading through this whole story, completely heartbroken. I don't know if this will help, since you don't know me and it's pretty unrelated. But I understand fear too. Not like, staring death in the face fear. But the kind of fear that leaves you lying there, unable to do anything. And I know how it feels to feel like you didn't do anything, like you weren't brave because you didn't save that one person or defy the odds. I know how it feels to feel like you're drowning, and like nobody can help you. When I was reading your story, I wanted to be there for you because when I was going through all that fear and pain, it felt like nobody was there for me. The thing is that none of the real heroes ever think that they are heroes themselves. They don't think their brave or strong or any kind of special. But I don't think you realize the magnitude of what you've done. No, you didn't save that one kid or stop your teacher from getting shot and you couldn't have stopped that bullet if you tried. But you survived the unthinkable, and you are still alive. And honestly, that probably doesn't sound like much cause for celebration right now, but it is. Someday, you'll believe that. Trust me.

Yay! I'm so glad that the initial goal price is almost met - Cheyeanne, you are an amazing young lady. I hope that you are able to recover fully, not just physically but in mind, as well. You are so strong, doll- never forget that. Your life is still just beginning & you were destined for greatness. I don't know you, but I felt connected to everyone, but you especially. I have nieces near your age. I remember being sixteen. I don't know how you're able to even speak about anything that happened yet. You are stronger than me & most other adults I know- though I wish you didn't have to be. May you recover fully & continue on to fulfill your dreams- you were obviously meant to fulfill them & shine on, girl, shine on.

Dear Cheyenne, I read your story here, http://www.washingtonpost.com/sf/national/2015/12/05/after-a-mass-shooting-a-survivors-life/?utm_term=.b2f8263b8125 I am sorry for all that you had to go through. The Steve Scalise shooting reminded me of you and the 2nd Amendment controversy. I also remember at the time of the Oregon school shooting that you and your family said that you support the 2nd amendment and giving people the right to bear arms. My mom fully agrees with you. But I used to be against the 2nd amendment and self defense for religious reasons. But now, I'm convinced that it is right to defend oneself. You are a strong-willed girl and you're gifted too. I pray that you recover and be resilient: O Lord Almighty, the Healer of our souls and bodies, You Who put down and raise up, Who chastise and heal also; do You now, in Your great mercy, visit our sister Cheyenne Fritzgerald, who is sick. Stretch forth Your hand that is full of healing and health, and get her up from her bed, and cure her of her illness. Put away from her the spirit of disease and of every malady, pain and fever to which she is bound; and if she has sins and transgressions, grant to herremission and forgiveness, in that You love mankind; yea, Lord my God, pity Your creation, through the compassions of Your Only-Begotten Son, together with Your All-Holy, Good and Life-creating Spirit, with Whom You are blessed, both now and ever, and to the ages of ages. Amen.

Keep fighting Cheyeanne! You've got this! I left home at 15, I am a nurse, I didn't go through what you went through but YOU can be the LIGHT! I try to be the LIGHT in the world of so much darkness, don't let the darkness win! You have a lot of obstacles to go through, but YOU CAN DO THIS! Screw what people try to make you think you have to be, or how you are supposed to feel or react! Deal with it in your way! But in the end, be the LIGHT you are meant to be! You will have patients who will benefit from your care, and someday you will have good days.

Dear Chyeanne, I wanted to let you know that it is true that you can call on GOD and HE will send HIS angels to protect you and HIS word is a comfort. Miracles have happened to me and I know this is true. I believe this to be a blessing. In the Bible it says: John 8:32 “And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” KingJamesVersion(KJV) Copy and paste to watch this DVD series online. Thank you for sharing the very real and and honest story about how difficult it has been to heal and deal with the shooting in todays Washington Post - perhaps one day this experience will help all of us find better ways to be there for people and their families during the recovery process as well. http://www.washingtonpost.com/sf/national/2015/12/05/after-a-mass-shooting-a-survivors-life/?hpid=hp_rhp-top-table-main_survivor-1010pm-display%3Ahomepage%2Fstory

Your profile on the Washington Post in December 2016 inspired me to write my play and honor the victims of gun violence everywhere. Despite the vitrol that has come from some of your community, we are getting a second production and I have re-read that Washington Post article many times. Best of luck to you now and into the future.
