VFW Post 3615 Building Fund

Donation protected
On July 3, 2018 I met with Post Commander J.D. Harper at the local VFW and saw first hand the pitiful state of their building. There are multiple groups, all Veteran related, that meet there monthly; The VFW, The VFW Auxiliary, The American Legion, and The Blue Star Mothers. Their current funding comes from the portion of dues that they receive, a flag rental program, and donations. The post was built during war time (early 1940s) and most available steel was shipped off to build military equipment. Because of that, there was no re-bar available for the foundation of this building. Nearing 100 years old, the shifting ground, storms, and father time have wreaked havoc on this building. The foundation is irreparably cracked, there's no insulation, the roof has multiple leaks, and the brick work on the outside of the building is in extreme disrepair. Most of the wiring is original and it's insulation crumbles at the slightest touch. If you look at the porch on even the slightest of windy days you'll see that one pillar swings loosely and provides no support at all to the crumbling roof. When I asked why the building wasn't condemned, he simply stated, "Because we have nowhere else to go." Rebuilding at their current location is basically not an option at all because of the sloping and lack of parking. In all honesty, they need, not only a whole new building but a better location entirely to be able to accommodate their current membership as well as provide an accessible location for all the newly disabled Veterans returning from our current war zones. Commander J.D. has reached out to many over the years for assistance or an acceptable real estate deal; none of which have come to fruition for one reason or another. I am asking you all to please find it in your hearts to help us reach our goal in any way you can. If you can give money, great! If you know of available land in Lincoln Parish on which we can build or a building and land that is adequate for their needs, share that info with us! One of the fund raisers that many VFW's have is the renting out of their facilities for events. This isn't even close to possible where they're at. It's not safe for ANYONE to be in this building and certainly not acceptable for those who have fought so the rest of us can enjoy the lives that we take for granted. Our Veterans deserve better than this.

If not us, who? If not now, when?

We can do better, y'all.

Let's start now!
